Nice light
The batteries are a little tricky, but once you figure out what size you want to use, they are fine. They float which is a huge plus. Easy to transport. Fairly bright.

Okay if you understand it
This lantern has so much potential. Build quality is very good. Light output is good as well. If anything, I wish it had a lower / nightlight setting like it's smaller 3AA cousin. The light tint appears to be a 5000K neutral white, rather than the harsh blue-white you get with many cheap lanterns. The diffuser does a good job of keeping the glare down. The ability to use C cells or AA cells is a great benefit after a natural disaster. That said...the battery compartment is a disaster, namely there's nothing indicating which way the batteries are supposed to go!TIP: Each battery type has 2 positive terminals (the nubby part) facing UP and 1 slot where the positive terminal facing down. The slot where it's facing down is near where the battery cover's prong is. I used a paint market to put a - mark next to those slots on mine.

Didn't work
Nice unit but it didn't work. At least the return was easy.

Good if you need a lantern that floats.
Bought this first, for power outages. It does what it says. But then I found the Duracell 1000 lumen 2 pack lanterns. 500 vs 1000--no contest. I like the 1000 lumen lanterns much better. Of course they don't float and are a bit heavier but they're perfect for power outages or camping.
