This is the simplest distillation device I have ever used. I use mine for distilling water, a purpose for which it is excellent. For alcoholic spirits I would be concerned the specific cut pints would be very broad due to the simplicity of the design. But for the price, there is really nothing to complain about.

Practico

Heard about hydrosol (?) on YouTube. Used garden lavender and rosemary to make organic room sprays and to spray on my pillowcases. Would have loved some ideas from sender on more uses.

The most glaring issue we're having is that when the pot gets hot, the bottom starts to bow out, making the bottom convex, and difficult to balance on a flat stove burner. (Electric, glass-top. No grates.) I know it's not bowing from internal pressure, as the pressure is venting out the coil and into the mason jar. (And the contents in the jar are bubbling, so there IS movement.) I had planned to maybe hammer it flat after we cooled and cleaned it, but as it cooled, the bottom became flat again. I have to imagine this is a cheap metal problem, and the heat is causing wild expansion in the metal.That being said, the thing still works. We were able to distill about 1375ml, so I'm super pleased with that, and that this method is effective. (We're using it to clean resin-tainted Iso Alcohol.) So for now, this wacky thing works. It would work a lot better if the bottom didn't balloon out when hot, as I have to constantly monitor it and rock it back and forth.Post-Return Review: Returned the first one because the bowing made me nervous. Hoped the second one wouldn't have the same issue, but it does indeed. Still makes me nervous. But I've waited too long to return it now, so I guess I am stuck with it. Really wish the bottom was made of a more durable metal, I should not have to rock a flat bottom pot back and forth. It almost becomes a two person operation as one has to feed ice into the condenser pot while the other rocks the main pot and holds it stable. (As the contents boil out, the bottom becomes lighter than the ice water in the condenser pot)

It broke during assembly, and even when repaired failed to adequately distill a simple mixture. Besides being of lousy quality, the copper cooling coils are way too small so they don't cool the vapors properly. Sent it back, since it simply didn't do the job.
