Quality Infrared Thermometer
Using this tool in a shop environment for measuring furnace and metal temperatures. Seems to work very accurately, good battery life and easy to use.

How cold is it - INSIDE?!?!
The gun is light weight and very easy to use. I have nothing to measure accuracy with so assuming it is.Living in New York City, there are heat requirements and I use it to see if the landlord is indeed giving adequate heat. This was the 3rd gun I ordered and the only one I kept.

This worked perfectly for what we needed.
My son had to do a project for science for his class and he needed to measure the temperature of different objects, This worked perfectly for that purpose.

Useful - Just Not for Grilling or Smoking
This is a nice little gadget to own, as long as you know its limitations. As far as detecting the temperature of the surface of something, it's pretty accurate, and easy to use. If I'm about to do a reverse-sear on a steak I've been cooking at a low temp, and want to make sure my cast iron griddle is absolutely ready, it works fine. But if you wanted to buy it for smoking or grilling food outdoors, there's something you need to know first....Labnique doesn't market this as a gadget used for BBQ. But that hasn't stopped other brands from marketing their laser thermometers as being useful for grilling. It's simply not useful for BBQ. If you pointed it at the inside of your smoker or grates, all it will do is tell you the temp of that surface area. And not the ambient temp of the area where your meat goes. For that, you'd really need a thermometer that could measure ambient tip, not a laser. Or just do the hand trick. Which is to hold your hand palm-down about three inches above the grill grates. How many seconds until you have to pull your hand away? Seven to nine seconds, you're at 250° to 300°F (low heat). Six to seven seconds, you're at 300° to 350°F which is medium-low. Four to five seconds is medium. Two to four is medium-high. And one to two seconds is 450° to 500°F which is high. Not as accurate as a thermometer, but it works.Three other quick takeaways. I do like that it came with a battery, already (similar ones don't). And I like that they actually have a picture of the battery compartment being opened. Last one I owned from a different brand, it took me a minute or so to figure out where the battery compartment even was. And this third thing isn't really a negative, but keep it away from kids. It's got a red-beam laser just like those little keychain laser pointers. It can damage someone's eye if they shine the beam into it, so don't leave it to chance that a toddler won't look at the beam if they find it laying around.Should you buy this thermometer? If you need to check the surface temperature of something, go for it. Just keep in mind that it's suitable for griddles and flat surfaces, if you're cooking. And not really ideal for smoking or traditional BBQ.

Works decent for the price
Never having used an infrared thermometer, I wasn't entirely sure of the accuracy this would provide compared to a much much more costly unit. From what I can tell so far its consistent. Now as far as how accurate, I cannot vouch for that 100%. I will need to do more testing. As far as build quality, the biggest complaint I have is the handle/Battery Compartment. The handle is where you put the battery. Its only held on basically by friction. You would expect a screw or at the very least a closure similar to a remote control where you have to lift a clip to get it open. My cover comes open all the time. It doesn't even fit very snuggly at all. I think I will need to tape it shut.Honestly I don't know how much the vendor actually takes suggestions from reviews, but this is my suggestion, FIX THE BATTERY COMPARTMENTI probably would have given it a 4-5 stars but not till its fixed.
