Q: I have a 251 stihl chainsaw, 16 lnch bar. Would this work okay or should I get a bigger saw and if so, how much bigger?

Your saw will work just fine but you will be limited to the size of the trees you can slab. You lose about 3 inches (of your16inch bar) by having the mill clamp onto the bar. On my 24 inch Husq., I removed the pivot teeth to get an extra inch or so and with the clamps set as far apart as I could get them, I can move through about a 21 inch trunk.

was able to cut easely 1 inch planks did not try to go thinner
