Almost there... Best cycling computer on the budget
I am looking for a cycle computer with maps and re-routing capability. Planning to explore England using my road bike. This device (Bryton 750) is a promising device. It has many capabilities and functions that you can find in the top tier cycle computer without breaking the bank.First Impression. The packaging is neat. Materials used in the device and accessories are good quality plastic. Doesn’t look cheap and feels sturdy. The device is easy to seat up, the screen is responsive to touch and has vivid colors. The "beep/alert" from the device is audible even when riding in traffic.[ONLINE MAPS review]For the device to function on its full capabilities you need to pair it with your mobile phone that has mobile data. If you don’t have mobile data on your phone the re-routing function will NOT WORK. In the event that you are on a place that has no mobile signal or your mobile phone ran out of battery the re-routing will NOT WORK however, If that happens to you in the middle of "planned route" meaning the course/path is loaded already on your Bryton750 screen you can just follow the path but if you get Off course it will just notify you.[Offline Maps (Follow track)]You can upload FIT,BDX,GPX file(s)in the device. You can link your Strava, komoot and ride gpx account directly on the Bryton App. Pre-planned maps made in Komoot are loaded in the Bryton750. You can load them and use them as normal. The only problem is when you are using Pre-loaded maps from Rid GPX, komoot, Strava, BDX,GPX files is that when you get off course or turn in the wrong street it will just tell you to stop or off course and WON'T REROUTE!!!This device has a POI (point of interest) marker on offline maps. This will allow you to tag certain places for food, check points, etc. This will give you the option to tag a certain place in the pre-planned maps. Example there will be a 10% grade on the next turn or a restaurant on the next street that information won’t show on pre-loaded file (gpx). BUT with Bryton app, you can tag them accordingly. Meaning you can MANUALLY edit GPX file and add markers for upcoming store or increase in grade or elevation. However, when you try to add POI on a GPX file or pre-loaded maps from Komoot, The screen loads the map of Taipei, Taiwan and not the actual map that you loaded. In short the POI feature is not working properly!Route planning on the app, It's a headache!! If you have big fingers and want to take a specific route it will be a big challenge. You can use your PC to create a route however the functionality of the site is poor.Voice search function, Headache to use! when you are in a noisy area or you did not pronounce the place/address/ location properly it won’t find the place that you are looking for. You can use the app on your mobile phone to locate it however once you found it, it will create a pre-loaded file that needs to be uploaded to your Bryton750 (pre-loaded) that ONLY means that when you get off course it won’t guide you back to course (NO RE-routing!!!)AGAIN the re-routing function will ONLY work if you search the address/location in the head unit (bryton750) via Voice search or drop pin. If you did not do that re-routing won’t work even if you are connected to an App and has mobile data.Another issue that I see with Bryton as a company is their Mobile app. The interface of the app is very basic. It looks like it was made in 2000. However, I like that you can modify/alter/change the data displayed on the head unit real-time. The heart rate sensor, cadence sensor & speed sensor are working properly. They are easy to pair. The device has a cool feature that auto uploads the ride on your Strava account once you are in the range of your home wifi. No issues and works well. The only issue for me is re-routing will only work if you plan your route via voice search or manual pin location and route planning on the app is outdated. If you dont need those features, this one is a steal!PS. I've updated the firmware 3 times and have the latest app
