IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a Russian Redesigned Circuit for Newer SMT Transistors and 20dB GAIN!
I bought this for Amateur Radio use after reviewing the TON of info on the Polish designed PA0RDT Mini-Whip, which others (DL1DBC in Germany and the NL Amateur PA3FWM) also modified and carefully evaluated! Great Research especially onto Longwave, which is more utilized, even for regional broadcasting in Europe. My big message here is that I wanted one of these as an antenna booster, more than the 35 x 120?mm patch on the preamp board, so was hoping the top Wing Nut is CONNECTED via nice cable to the top of the PCB. Second, I wanted no fiddley SMA connectors, BNC is easier to terminate in CATV Coax all day with the best sealed ring compression connectors.Thirdly, I was impressed with the updated circuit design PHOTO ATTACHED!!! - to use much newer and quieter Front End Dual Gate MOSFET (in a 20dB DRAIN OUTPUT, not SOURCE FOLLOWER mode). This feeds a newer BF561 SOT-223 cased NPN HF/VHF transistor as the Emitter Follower output stage.I tried mapping the S21 and other parameters on our HP/Agilent 6GHz VNA at ADVA (my work lab), and had a FAILURE because the little grounding wires had sheared in the Bias TEE box!!! I fixed that with generous wide Solder Wick soldered in a U shape over the connector to the PCB with some flexibility retained after TIGHTENING the 2 BNC connectors on the box. The gain like at 10MHz was 10dB (dBm), which matches the claimed 20dB VOLTAGE gain. Finally, this Russian version has a little MiniCircuits BALUN TRANSFORMER which totally isolates the Bias Tee to Receiver Input from the antenna/coax/DC power ground. THEREFORE it was critical to connect a short heavy ground from their supplied lug on the TEE box to your receiver. I did this on my KENWOOD R-599 with 10X upgraded Audio Path caps and an IEC Filter Module with better internal AC wiring. Otherwise no change in Received signal occurred with or without the DC power applied! The signal level for WWV 10MHz from CO to GA at night on a pool-pole outside my house using the longer supplied thin BNC-BNC cable, was about 20dB lower on the S-meter/or R599 Attenuator position than my crossed full size 80m Inverted VEE antenna at 90ft.BUT I have not retested since repairing the WEAK, FRAGILE BNC grounding wires in the otherwise EXCELLENT Bias TEE box. I LOVE all the design improvements, which are the wonderful excellent updating of semiconductors and providing output isolation BALUN! Only this one change needs to be made, but I also REPLACED the input coupling cap to 0.01 or 0.001uF SMD 0805 or larger, for more external antenna coupling/BW.

Things missing
Antenna came without any instructions. Also, device has input for DC voltage, but no transformer was included. Shipping box was crumbled and without any internal padding or wrapping.
