Great sticks for added effect
I almost passed on these because of the low ratings people have given them. I took a chance on them anyway because I figured the fun effect they could have out weighed the chance that they were as bad as the reviews said they were. The fact is, these are pretty cool. I have played with them for about 1 hour total now and they work great and are holding up to quite a beating. Far more than I thought they would. They light up bright and look pretty awesome.Having said that, there are a few things these are not. First as mentioned in other reviews they do not have the same feel as a wood stick. I see no reason to lower their rating for that though because after all, they are not wood sticks! Wood sticks are pretty rigid where these have some flex to them. They're not rubbery just not rigid like wood. This is likely so that they are durable. Unlike wood, plastic has no grain structure. If these were made more rigid they would likely be brittle and break easily. These are likely a compromise between rigidity and durability. Overall I'd say the effect is very livable and they are very playable. Also, these will likely not be as durable as a good wooden stick. These again are not wood and plastic after all. The thing is, wood sticks don't last forever and even break during use. These also will not be every day sticks and possibly not even all night sticks. They will be sticks where the added effect of a brightly lighted stick is worth the loss of feel and possibly durability. If you're thinking about these for an added effect for a show or a little novelty when your playing, I say go for it. They do appear to be able to hold up pretty well to hard use and for limited uses they can be pretty cool. Just don't expect that you will throw away your wood sticks, that's not the point of these.B

A fun novelty, but poorly made, frustrating to play with, and possibly damaging to drumheads.
On the plus side, these sticks do "what it says on the tin": they light up when you strike them. The lights are bright and fun to watch--a bit like drumming with light sabers-- but there are too many issues with these sticks for me to enthusiastically recommend them.Firstly, these sticks are made of acrylic, which does not have the same response as wood or metal. They flex so much, it can feel like playing with rubber bands. They have a spongy attack, and their tone is rather dull. If you like to flip your sticks around and play with the butt ends, you need to be extremely careful due to a retaining screw which pokes out and WILL damage your drum heads. But by far the worst thing about these sticks is the build quality. Upon receiving them, I discovered the batteries were already partly drained. What is more (I ordered four pair) they are not consistent in their brightness, with some which would barely light up at all, and others which lit up with the gentlest of motions. After opening up the butt ends to change the batteries (Be prepared to spend as much $ on new batteries as you do on the sticks themselves) the illumination mechanisms popped right out. They were very flimsy, and the beauty wrap and circuit board on several of the mechanisms came right off. Since these were for a special event, I had no choice but to repair them as best I could (Bye Bye Amazon Return). The actual circuit was very simple, but quite shoddy in its assembly. A small spring enclosed in the board vibrates when the sticks are hit, and the vibrating spring closes the circuit. The current is stored in a capacitor which dissipates the current and allows the LED to glow evenly. Clever in concept, but flawed in execution. The spring is very delicate, and can easily lodge itself in a position where it will not vibrate enough to close the circuit-- or-- it will get stuck in a permanent ON position. The circuit board itself is connect to the batteries by way of a fragile trace which runs the length of the butt end. This will almost certainly break when the mechanism comes out of the stick, as it did on several of mine. I was able to mod the connection with conductive copper tape, but balancing the springs on the faulty sticks was nearly an exercise in futility. When re-assembling the sticks, setting the retaining screw back into the screw end is difficult, if not impossible. So, after all my modding and adjusting, I am stuck with four pair of these Firestix. I suppose I can re-engineer the circuit board with a more reliable trigger mechanism, but I would have much preferred to have a quality product from the start. This is not a product I can recommend in any way.

Firestix Drumsticks - Blue
I bought these for my grandson for Xmas and he thinks they are brilliant. He is having drum lessons at school and has a drum kit at home so they will be well used. Really effective. They arrived quickly and were very well wrapped. Highly recommended.
