Oh how cute... a baby spokeshave
This might be good as a carpenter's paperweight or conversation piece. There is no indication of just how small this item is. This is not a full-size spokeshave; it's the size of a carpenter's refrigerator magnet. When the description stated: "312 total width" I figured it was a misprint and took it for granted to mean the blade was about 3".This tool is 3.5" long... TOTAL. The blade is 7/8" wide. When it arrived it first struck me as a joke. Then I was just peeved that the tool description wasn't more accurate... especially in light of the probably-bogus 5-star first review. If this tool was about 3 times larger it might be a nice item. It does not arrive adjusted properly; the blade is far too deep in cut to be of any value. There is no blade locking mechanism save for one single screw. As a wood-worker's tool I can't imagine the application. It's just far too small to be of any value. There's only room on the handles for a thumb and finger; how is one supposed to hold it and do any work? The only real value I can perceive is as a joke-gift for your favorite craftsman. Even then, he'd probably be as disappointed as I was when I opened the miniscule envelope and realized how tiny this "spokeshave" actually is.

May be useful for very fine detail work
According to the item description, I was expecting a 5-6 inch long spokeshave. but it only measures a bit over 3-1/2 inches long. It may be useful for very small work, but it's way too tiny for what I wanted to use it for.

Good product for the price, but...read below.
I used this product for doing some fine carving/whittling on some cedar wood for fishing decoys. It worked fine except the blade wasn't very sharp and needed to be touched up, and the screw which tightens the blade was difficult in terms of keeping the blade at the correct depth while tightening the screw.

How to sharpen, hone and set up a spokeshave correctly- practice on scraps of the same species.
Just the right size for those tiny spots that would suffer greatly were you to try a chisel or sandpaper and “overkill” that tiny spot. This shouldn’t necessarily be your first spokeshave, but having said that, you should have this for those little details that make your projects just right.

Used to shape surfboard. Essential tool.

Doll sized DULL tool
I specifically was looking for tools not sold from over seas. This came from a US company so I was confident I would be pleased. I did read the description but I guess I missed the miniscule size that this is. First, how are you even able to use it? It is doll sized. Second, even if I could hold it to use, its pointless as the blade is so dull it couldn't cut soft butter. Best to use your money wisely and buy elsewhere.

Check the dimensions
I failed to notice the size which was listed. When it arrived I almost cried laughing how small this was. However, it’s still a functional piece and works well enough in tight spots. An awesome ice breaker in conversation. So yeah, check the dimensions!
