Pretty and easy to handle, but a little scary.
I like the compact size and the fact that the razor is not curved when scoring bread. I don't care for the way the blade is held, however, since you have to twist the very thin base to tighten and loosen it. If it isn't tight enough, the blade slips when scoring, and in screwing to tighten it would be very easy to slip and slice a finger.

Work great for the occasional bread score
Pros: Precise Scoring: The primary purpose of a bread lame is to score the dough before baking, allowing it to expand and release steam. This tool excels in creating precise, clean cuts on the dough's surface, enabling it to rise beautifully and develop that signature artisanal appearance. Suitable for Various Dough Types: Whether you're baking sourdough, baguettes, or other types of bread, this scoring tool can be adapted to suit different dough recipes and shapes. Affordable: Bread lames are generally affordable and represent a low-cost investment for anyone serious about bread baking or not. Cons: Learning Curve: While scoring bread is an essential step, it can take some practice to achieve consistently beautiful patterns. Novice bakers may need a bit of patience and practice to master this skill. Blade will dull and changing it for intense use can be annoying. Be Delicate when handling: The blade is “razor sharp” Be slow to setup or it will definitely score your finger. Single Purpose: This tool is primarily designed for scoring bread, so it doesn't serve other kitchen functions. Some people prefer multi-purpose tools to save space. Conclusion: I’m sure there are other product that may be safer to use or more practical in use but if you want a artistic lame for bread scoring and don’t use it often then this will work.

Functional
Easy to use and clean. Functioned great for scoring my loaves. The sharpness lasts for about half a dozen loaves which is ok.

Wow super score on first try!
I really loved the Tree of Life pattern and for that pattern I was willing to pay the listed amount. The design is actually not as deep or dark as the photo above, but still very nice. It actually came with 10 blades. Yay! But WOW does this little guy score beautifully on the very first attempt. I’m new to bread scoring and sourdough bread. So I practiced on some low hydration bread dough that was room temperature and only an hour along in its process. I just pulled it into a tight round and WOW did this little lame do it’s job! I should have photographed the beautiful wheat stalk and slash! I love it! BTW: I almost did NOT buy this one because some of the comments/reviews said that the blade doesn’t stick out far enough. The blades that came with mine had three holes to choose from and I allowed the blade to stick out as far as possible, using the third hole. I love it and there was zero problem opening the device and zero problem safely screwing it back together. Just have appropriate respect for the razor sharp edge and use some caution.

excellent...yet dangerous
I love the UFO lame for scoring bread. You have so much more control of the score and I can make more intricate patterns. The product is beautiful and functional. It doesn't get a 5-star from me because it is hard to type with bandages on my thumb and finger. the beautiful finish proved a perfectly shiny and slippery finish that makes changing the blade a risk of hospital visits. I thought I was doing well and taking precautions by wrapping it in a towel when trying to unscrew it and yet the blade somehow slipped out of the towel and into my thumb with great force...I guess I don't know my own strength. I think a lame designer would be best to create a grip able surface making blade changing less of a challenge and risk ;)

Get a nice cut, a sharp blade and beautiful design with this bread tool.
Great tool for scoring sourdough. You can easily mark beautiful designs in the dough before you bake. Fits nicely in your hand.

Update: Unusable and paint splashed on one side
The two halves of the lame that was shipped to me can't be untwisted, it's as if they are glued together. So it's not possible to install a razor blade. (My hands are huge so I've asked others with smaller hands to try: nobody can unscrew the halves. Also some paint on one side would have to be scraped off before getting it anywhere near bread (see photo). I suggest that Emmer ship with the halves cleaned of paint and not connected, or at least held together with light normal hand pressure. I was looking forward to using this product but since it's the first time I've ordered from them, perhaps they all ship like this? UPDATE: The folks at Emmer reached out to me and asked me to send the product to them so that they could replace it but they didn't give me any way of reaching out to them, either email/URL/mailing address. All that said, I kept the lame at my desk and after a few tries over a few weeks, was able to unscrew the halves and put the blade in as directed using my palms instead of my fingers. I'm going to lightly sand that paint off, and frankly I like a lot about the way the product works now. The holder you put it into holds the base and the blade, snaps fineseems perfectly safe enough. I suggest they refine their customer service as mentioned but in fairness, I will begin using this as it was intended. I'd call this experience a 3 out of 5 now, but, frankly, I'm looking forward to using the product now.
