Batteries are critical [was: Quality control failure]
As some others have reported, my one of these would not go into turbo mode (for more than a fraction of a second), I suspect either due to not handling the power or due to instant overheat (maybe a bad heat sink connection), and would then switch off until disconnected from batteries. Other modes work, but this is very expensive for a 2000 lumen flashlight when it was supposed to be a 7000 lumen one.EDIT: Having tried a replacement NiWalker MM15MB and seem similar behaviour, I now suspect ThruNite's batteries cannot provide sufficient current (I've uprated the TN36 to reflect the apparent blamelessness, but no longer have it to confirm). Some of ThruNite's batteries drive the MM15MB at full power for a short period and others don't at all, which is similar to what I saw with the TN36 UT. It seems to be common for 3400mAh batteries to be limited in current draw, despite apparent reviews of this torch with ThruNite-provided cells - the TN36UT is listed on ThruNite's website as compatible with 3200mAh cells, but ThruNite currently only provide the 3400mAh ones which caused me trouble. High current (but smaller capacity) batteries seem fine with the MM15MB, and likely would be with the TN36UT as well. I have tried Samsung INR18650-25R, LE 18650 HE4 and eFest purple 18650s, all of which have been fine and are rated at 2500mAh - but check whether the TN36UT can use flat-tops and unprotected cells. I'm keeping the ThruNite cells for "low-power" (2625 lumen, in the MM15MB, would have been 2500 lumen in the TN36 UT) use.

PHOTOGRAPHY LIGHT THAT HAS NO EQUAL
This is quite simply the ONLY light that you will need for your photography. Shooting dark and centuries old wooden carved heads against a wooden vaulted ceiling approx 30 feet overhead with precious little ambient light - local church - I used the ThruNite TN30 at turbo/full power for half an hour. Yes the casing became hot but not so that it was unmanageable. More to the point there was no diminution of light, no stepping down, just a fantastic white light that allowed visibility and focus using a 250mm lens.At the other end of the scale using the TN30 as a backlight for flower close ups in daylight - occluded sunshine - provided added sparkle to an otherwise unlit tulip. With a close up lens the depth of field is so tiny that any additional light is welcome and this light gave a translucent quality to the petals. The unit was loaded with Thrunite 18650 batteries also purchased from Amazon. As a field light it is quite heavy and probably not the ideal torch for the pocket, but for photography it is this very weight that makes it stay where it is placed and with a flat tail will stand upright if required. The USA reviews will state that it is about the size of a soda can or in UK terms the same size as a Heinz Big Soup 500gm can.Using the latest NiteCore i4 charger from total discharge to fully recharged takes 6 hours for all 4 batteries but this is obviously shortened if you simply top up.The modes are low, medium, high which can be found by clicking on - a blue light shows in the switch which is flush to the metal casing - and double click takes the TN30 to turbo and another double click to strobe (headache inducing even when looking at the effects so beware). Switch off from either strobe or turbo and the light will come back on at its previous first switch setting.By holding the finger on the switch instead of clicking it, brings on the firefly mode - this can run for 98 days apparently, meaning precious little discharge of batteries - another advantage when the minimal of light is useful to inspect readings via led panels which simply bounce a strong light back and information is thus rendered illegible.I highly recommend this TN30 to any photographer, the possibilities are almost endless.

Let there be light !!.
I bought this purely due to the light output v price, which is excellent. Extremely well made, the only downside is small hands will struggle with the circumference. The light produced is crisp white light on the cool end of the spectrum. The throw is reasonable but there are better long range torches but at short distances this will be hard to beat. My only criticism is that the batteries need recharging out of the device, but this is the same in the vast majority of competitors. I have now managed to use this torch in earnest. It was needed during a search of a derelict factory. Wow is all I can say. It was a lot brighter than the car headlamp beam and illuminated a huge area. Compared to colleagues torches and even when put together and by using the car headlights it out performed the lot. The batteries lasted well and as it was a very cold night the heat build up was very welcome. The beam must have illuminated a good 150 metre area in front of us. Very pleased with its capabilities now.

It’s great when it works.
It works most times. Intermittent failure when it switches itself off after being fully charged is irritating. I emailed them but had no reply. It doesn’t come with batteries so add £100 onto the price for batteries and a charger. It’s perfect for walking dogs and night walking. It’s heavy and feels substantial. On low it’s perfect, on high or turbo it turns the surrounding area into day. It hasn’t got huge distance so if it’s a searchlight your looking for try something else.

Thrunite TN36 great light.👍
Well made robust and great design....Don't use cheap batteries i use samsung 30Q 18650s with great results .strong robust holster and lanyard to keep it safe.If you need a portable light for security, camping, hiking,or just a boys (girls) toy at a real price then this torch is for you.easy to use and practical settings with memory function. Comfortable pop can design.the provided holster is great but i keep mine in a opsprey mtp sa80. 2 (double) magazine pouch too keep in with my kit fits perfect.
