Airfix A11004 Avro Shackleton MR2 Plastic Model Kit (1:72 Scale)

It's beautifully molded but it is a very difficult fit for the fuselage and cockpit parts. The interior detail is terrific, if only for those like me who spend hours painting it in the knowledge no one will ever see it. Decals as good as all Airfoil.

Airfix is improving with each new releases. The new coloured instruction sheets is clear and concise. The surface details, though recessed, isn't an accurate representation of the actual bird, considering there are thousands of rivets and welding joints. But don't be distracted by surface details, the dimension and shape looks spot on with the actual drawings! The inclusion of detailed crew compartment is a bonus, A perfectly registered decal sheet. A great deal of stencil data was included too. It was noted that 204 Sqn operated from ex-RAF Tengah, Singapore, not Indonesia as indicated.

A well moulded model, well presented and with many options.Pity inside is of an AEW shack, 963 as she was when you did your research, whereas advertised as MR 2 ( ? Phase lll ) , but I am a purist.colour scheme open to doubt as well!!But, the model as such is excellent!!PCH member S P T and ex ASWDU Coastal Command.

一般的にはマイナーな飛行機ですが、けっこう好きな機体です。`60年代の終り頃、型は違いますがハセガワ・フロックから1/72スケールで発売されていたことがありました。比較にはなりませんがまったく別次元というか、最近のAIRFIXクオリティでリニューアルされています。何とドイツレベルからも本機がモデル・キット化されるということでこちらも楽しみにしています。恐らくはフロックの金型をそのまま流用したのではないかと思われるARKモデルからもキットが出ています。出来不出来以前にこんなマイナーな機体がほぼ同時に模型市場に登場するとは思いもかけない出来事です。さて本キットですがモールドはすでにスタンダードと呼んでも良い新生AIRFIXモールドでやや柔らかい素材でもちろん凹モールドが施されています。パーツは多目ですが説明書通りにステップを踏んでゆけば問題なさそうです。デカールはイタリア、カルトグラフ製の上質のものが付属しています。面倒といえば主翼上面のウォーク・ウェイを表すラインのデカールですが、私は、敢えてこれを使用せず、塗装処理をすることにしています。アイズというところから発売されている0.4mmや0.7mmのマスキングテープを使用して塗装で表現します。何しろこういうデカールをまっすぐ貼るのはけっこう面倒なものでして、マーキングも出来るものは出来るだけ塗装で仕上げるようにしています。初めて飛行機のプラモを作るという方にはお勧めしませんが、屈託なく楽しむベテランモデラーの方でこういう飛行機が好きな方にはお勧めです。

Airfix have let themselves down with this one, I used to work on these aircraft in the early seventies and this model is neither one thing or another.The fuselage is of a maritime MR2 mk2 but the interior is the AEW version so from a purist point of view it is lacking.
