Donna Summer gained prominence during the 1970s Disco era, propelled by her incessant and creative driving force behind the genre's global popularity, rightly earning the title Queen of Disco and becoming one of the most successful recording artists of the entire decade. The second album released for the Geffen label was the 1982 classic DONNA SUMMER, which saw her enter new territory, with production duties taken over by Quincy Jones. This proved to be a masterstroke of the highest degree on David Geffen's behalf, as the next album that Quincy produced was Michael Jackson's THRILLER. This remastered reissue, is packaged in a sumptuous case-bound book, containing the original full album credits and acknowledgements, newly authored liner notes by noted US writer Christian John Wikane.

DONNA SUMMER self titled 1982 album from Ms. Summer, her second album with the Geffen label after The Wanderer. THIS ALBUM IS A MASTERPIECE!!!! Produced by Mr. Quincy Jones. Creative differences between Ms. Summer & Mr. Jones during the production and recording session of the album are cited, but the result here is MUSIC AT IT'S HIGHEST ART!!!!! A very smooth transition for Ms. Summer from her disco queen fame into pop/rock to continue with her already well established stardorm. The huge hit here LOVE IS IN CONTROL (FINGER ON THE TRIGGER) A DISCO/ROCK BLEND WITH POLICE WHISTLES a-la Bad Girls style that went to #10 on the Billboard single charts during the summer of that year. The album disappeared after that, I remember purchasing a vynil copy FOR $1 from the discontinued bin @ one of the local record shops here in Chicago LOL!!!!! Finally Available On CD...After 32 years!
Great remastering. So nice to have this album and the 12" version of "Love Is In Control" on CD at last. Produced by Quincy Jones around the same time as Michael Jackson's "Thriller", it's unfortunate that Donna's album has been mostly forgotten. While not containing as many instant classics as "Thriller" it's still a great listen. With "Love Is In Control", "The Woman In Me" and the sublime "State Of Independence" you can't go wrong.

What can I say???...this is a classic CD. I really loved her rendition of "Lush Life". Anyone who purchase this CD...you owe it to yourself to check this out.

Overlooked Classic
Although panned by critics at the time this is actually a very good Donna album with a lot of varying styles and influences proving just how versatile she was. Production was by Quincy Jones who also completed another classic album in the same year with Michael Jackson (Thriller).
