A little tricky to get working right but finally it works as it's supposed to.
Before I bought this thermometer I looked at the reviews for all the remote oven thermometers that I could find. None of them had very good reviews; many individual units looked like they didn't work either from the moment they arrived at people's doorsteps or they stopped working later on, while some seemed to work fine. Considering that this one seemed to have the most positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. When it arrived, I removed the tape protecting the battery, and as some have said, it wouldn't turn off unless I removed the battery. However, next time I looked at it, it turned off just fine, and that continues to work correctly so far. Next issue was the jack. At first I could only get it half-way in. I really thought I couldn't insert it any further, and I tried to use it that way. Of course it did not work. I thought the unit was defective, but then I looked at it again. This time I twisted the jack and it went in all the way. Next problem was that it was a little tricky getting the probe attachment to stay where I put it in the oven, but eventually with some bending of the metal stand, I was able to get it to (a little precariously) hang from the oven rack (I don't see how it can stand up on the rack at all, even though there is a picture like that in the instructions). Eventually it all came together and it finally worked when I baked a cake. I can't attest to the accuracy of the temperature, although I did have another oven thermometer in the oven, and it didn't seem too far off. The alarm is a little annoying, but once you see what the temperature is doing, you can turn it off and just check it now and then. The benefit of this device is that you do not have to open the oven to monitor the temperature, thus losing heat in the process. So I think it works well enough so far, though I don't know whether it'll break down in the future (some say that it might eventually stick at the maximum temperature).

works well and seems to be accurate.
I got this because I didn't trust the oven's temperature control. It works well, but the magnets that are glued to it both fell off almost immediately. I have since lost one magnet but will attempt to find an appropriate glue to put the other one back on. Meanwhile I have to lay it on the counter. Not a big deal but a little disappointing.

Nice kitchen item at a great price.
I knew my oven was inconsistent. I'm pretty sure it was original equipment for my 25 year old house. And like everything else about this house, I can find equivalent replacements for doors, light fixtures and faucets in the bargain bin at Home Depot. I shouldn't be surprised that the appliances are of similar quality.I wish I could say that this little item solved all my problems. But all this digital thermometer told me was that my oven was emotionally incapable of maintaining anything resembling a consistent temperature. The temperature on the knob bore absolutely no relation to the temperature in the oven. Turning the temperature knob up or down produced completely random results. So with tax refund check in hand, I purchased a new oven. I would like to drag the old oven out into the street and shoot it like a mad dog, but discharging firearms within city limits is apparently illegal, even in Texas. But I digress. This thing saved me months/years of frustration trying to work with an unworkable appliance by showing me how truly awful my oven is in a very consistent, verifiable manner. The thermometer simple to use, and the 20 hour timer is a nice feature. I use it to remind me that my 12 hour dough rise has, in fact, been rising 12 hours. My only quibble is that the cable for the probe is pretty short. I'd planned on sticking it to the control panel on the back of the stove, but the wire length is entirely inadequate. I'd happily pay an extra 5 bucks to get another 2 feet (0.00303030303 furlongs) for a little extra flexibility in placement.Other than that minor aside, it works great. The price can't be beat. I'll still use to with my new oven as a double-check on the oven's own thermometer. To quote Ronald Reagan: "Trust, but verify. Especially when baking bread."Even though I got pretty good at determining when my oven reached 450 degrees by touch alone, this thermometer is almost completely pain-free. And doesn't raise near as many blisters. For the price of this thing, it should be as standard in the kitchen as a spatula or wooden spoon. 20 bucks is cheap insurance in case your oven decides it wants to report its temperature in Celsius or Kelvins for the day without notifying you.If you use your oven, buy this thermometer.

Even better than one I ordered
I ordered a Maverick Baker's Oven, but I received an excellent high quality useful "Remote Smoker's Thermometer".Although it is mainly designed for BBQ Smoker units and BBQ meat. It is brilliant at sensing the temperature of the oven and food inside a kitchen oven. The thermometer was very easy to use.

I was surprised how off my oven temperature was
I had been having a lot of problems baking or heating things in my oven: they often seemed overcooked, or burnt. I was looking around for a remote system: one with a sensor I could put in the oven, with an external display. I was not expecting the sensor to be connected to the display by a cable. That was a surprise. However, getting over the surprise of the cable, I installed this in my oven, and was able to discover that my oven was sometimes running maybe 75 degrees F hot. When I set my oven dial to 350, this thermometer stabilized at 425. I quickly re calibrated my oven dial but I still keep this in my oven.If you have a low end stove without digital oven temperature control, of if you're having trouble with things you put into your oven not getting cooked properly, it may be due to the oven temperature not being what you think it is, or want it to be, then maybe this could be a help to you.

Everyone must have one of these !
Revolutionary ! I can actually see when my oven is at the temperature I want, I can adjust it until it stabilizes, then I put my food in the oven. Then I can walk away and the alarm tells me if the temp fluctuates too much. A game changer for baking - who can actually read those inside oven thermometers ? Constantly opening the door, a roller coaster of temperatures. Impossible. This is a very smart product, solves all these problems. I ordered another one for the cottage !!!

This thermometer works well with my oven. The sensor ...
This thermometer works well with my oven. The sensor is inside the oven and connected with the meter outside, I don't need to open the oven to read the temperature. In my case, the oven temperature fluctuation is -10/+10 degrees.

Exactly what I wanted!
Wanted something to find the ambient temp of my oven, not the temperature of meat in my oven. This is exactly what I needed!Realized my over runs 15 degrees higher than what you set it too, very helpful overall, and even more helpful when baking polymer clay items.Works great, the clip they give you does a terrible job though, but pliers fixed it (with some fiddling), so it wouldn't pop out of place.
