Q: what thickness and is it only foil or paper backed?

I have a package here and it doesn't say the thickness of the foil but since most laminators have settings for 3mm & 5mm I'd feel safe going with one of those. It is NOT paper backed.

Q: Can I use this to wrap a cake board? Is it like regular tin foil that will wrap around things and scrunch easily?

No, this isn’t anything like tin foil. It’s more like a slick thin paper. You place it on black print and the foil bonds to the ink (using a machine).
