Faulty design or simply a bad batch?
The metal piece on the jar over time has chipped away and broken the glass on the rim. I rotated the metal ring and it did it again. The jar is flawed. I would have preferred to contact the company directly before leaving a negative review, but Amazon does not present that as an option. For such an expensive jar, this is a really major defect that is eventually going to break the jar.

DANGEROUS DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Manufacturing defect! The wire contacts the glass of the top and fractures it into small pieces. Photos are of a coffee mate in the container that fractured. There was a grinding sound upon closing and locking.I suspect that the wires were formed at the wrong angle. Did pieces of glass get into my coffee mate before I noticed this? Did I ingest the shards of glass? Does the manufacturer care?AMAZON....WE NEED A ZERO ON THE RATING SCALE!!!!!!I spent considerable money buying these, because they are the best, and am now going to throw all of them in the TRASH.Do not buy! Go to dollar store and buy the cheapest. I've used lesser brands for years , decades without ever having this problem.I BOUGHT MANY SIZES OF THESE AT ONCE BASED UPON REPUTATION. Take the rubber fully off to clean!
I use these for my overnight grains. I’m very pleased with them. They are very nice and add a bit of visual interest to your meals, begging someone to ask, “Ooh, what’s that?” I prepare my grains weekly, so I set these out in a row and fill the all their contents at once. Makes it quicker that way. They fit nicely in my clear fridge organizer trays too. They are a little cumbersome to clean and can only be hand-washed. Make sure you take off the rubber washer off to clean. I set dry on my bamboo rack and then they’re ready for the next week. I am happy with my purchase!

Best food canisters!
These non-lead jars from France are the only jars I’ll use now to store food in. I continue to add to my collection in various sizes for different pantry items. Food stays fresh, clean, visible and pantry is organized.

Lid randomly broke from pressure applied by the lock?
The lid broke in the area where the snap lock applies pressure. In a place where it could not be bumped or smacked. I picked it up and opened it and glass fell all over, unaware that it was broken. I had to throw away 4 dollars worth of cheese that the glass scattered on, and the ten dollars of specialty spice that was inside of the jar.I am incredibly disappointed by this, due to the cost of these jars, and the fact that I purchased more of them recently before this happened..
