Swapping heads
I have an 11 zone system the first 7 are the older model of the HR92 so I'm not new to these.Installing and binding them is not that hard if you have dumb TRV head that are the M30 size. Just unscrew the old head, unclip the valve base adaptor and screw it on to the value. Then seat the body back on and lock it in place. Press the button once then press and hold until bind appears. Then on the controller in admin mode select the zone and binding when the controller is ready just press the button on the head again and it should complete the process. So why not all five starts. I was replacing four HR91s one had a fault (eating batteries a set a week) so amazon needed all four returning rather than replacing the faulty one. This is not simple, as a zone can have multiple values bound you need to remove the old head but the controller doesn't list them so how to you do that. Run an RF check. It will complain that it could not talk to one of the actuators, click next then you should have a delete button, hit that and it removes the old head from the zone. Why it can't detect that serial number head is on another zone now and remove it, or even when you unbind it it can signal to remove it I don't know. Or anything better that what you have to do to replace heads in the system.Note: If you don't do this you will get RF fault messages as it can't talk to the old head. The next issue I had was in this new set one head would not turn on a radiator, manually you could. So I tried swapping two around the radiator that would not turn on now works, but now the head that was not turning on will not turn off the radiator, yet it was working fine with another head.I have to say this makes no sense, I could guess it was over sensitive on the end stop sensor.I really did not wish to need to return another set, so I tried another swap.Third time luck I guess as everything works, guess it didn't like being side on.I've found you need to unbind the head before you bind it to a new zone, you might get away with straight binding it to another zone but I'm not convinced.

Very significant savings on a 4 bed semi
We have a new and high efficiency boiler (Valliant) but still found our gas usage was too high. This has chopped a third from our gas bill and I suspect more savings can be achieved with additional fine tuning of the system. The system is easy to setup with the controller Evohome smart wireless zoning thermostat - works with Alexa (sold separately) and took around 20 minutes for the software side. I did need the assistance of a plumber to get the valve bases on the radiators changed over as none of the fixing kits were suitable for our size of valve bases and also to connect the wireless relay into the boiler (so that this system controls the boiler itself). The default settings for a room being unoccupied or at night is 15'c but this was easy to change. We've got our bedrooms coming on for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours at night, with the unoccupied setting reduced to 5'c.Each of these thermostats has a manual override facility, you simply adjust the top of the valve to the desired temperature to call for heat. The app for the system is very simple and allows you to switch on off the system from your smartphone, found it useful coming back from a recent holiday, switched the system on when we landed and by the time we got home the house was nice and warm. You can group several rooms into one zone and have the same settings (on/off and desired temperature) for each, or control each room independently. Each day is separately programmable. There is a good function "day off" where if you're working from home you select and it will fire up per another day of your choosing. We bought this system for 8 zones and intend to add an underfloor heating system to it for some rooms at a later date Honeywell evohome HCE80 Underfloor Heating Controller for 5 Zones .You can hear the units whirring when they're opening and closing the valves on the radiators and this is quite loud in the middle of the night (hence why we dropped the at night temperature down in all but the toddlers room) however there is a setting to reduce the number of cycles per hour (6 is the default) from 3-12. Make sure you check your boilers optimum cycle rate and match it up with the system. We've had no problems with loss of wifi connection to each of the units in a 4 bed traditional house with lath & plaster walls.

Great Product
Only took a couple of hours to set and does exactly what it says on the tin as the saying goes. So far I'm very happy with the system. A couple of things I've found whilst setting up are :- There are several honeywell apps so make sure you get the right one, "Total Connect Comfort Intl" same with the Alexa app make sure you get the right one. Also when you change a setting via Alexa, mobile or Ecohome controller there's a delay up to 4 minutes this is because the system only communicates every 4 minutes to extend battery life it's not an fault.Only negatives really if I had to be picky are:- The HR92 radiator stats have quite a big menu to scroll through and no information on what all the options do. I suspect they are for manufacture setup so really shouldn't be there. Secondly the Ecohome control unit could be a lot better with more options for example a short cut screen with the ability to switch individual zones on and off. At the moment you can only turn all on or all off.Overall I would recommend this system and hopefully I will begin to see my energy bills fall and claw back some of the quite high price tag.
