Acme 4873 Crow Sound Accent

It's fun to use. You need to practice a bit to get it to warble. The sound effect depends on the water level in the reservoir. It's a little tricky to get the correct water level to maintain the sound. This is not very loud, which is fine with me.

I got this whistle because it sounded different and realistic bird call. I didn't expect that the sparrows in the backyard would come down and landed close by and watch me play with the whistle. I just hope that the neighbors won't get irritated by me blowing this thing all the time. The instructions were horrible and way off. It took a long time to get this to sound nice. Here's what worked for me. I used a plastic pipet to fill the water. Instead of filling with only 1/4, I'd fill it at least 1/3 with water. When I cover up the whistle hole and blow in it and can hear the bubbles, I know that I have enough water. Instead of leaving the rubber grommet and screw off, I'd put it on but loosely; this gave it louder and more consistent calls. It tends to have a consistent nice effect if I tilt it and hold it at about 45 degrees instead of upright. This tends to get it to create the Nightingale call instead of just a whistle. I noticed that I didn't have to blow as hard when holding at 45 degrees. Put hear plugs or cotton in your ears when you blow this whistle , if anyone else can't hear this out in the wilderness or wherever you are then they are probably deaf .

Why did I use ALL CAPS in the headline? Because I'm YELLING! I bought the Acme 58.5 Thunderer Whistle (Large), and I'm YELLING because I can't hear myself think. Turns out, it's exactly what I had hoped it would be. I wanted a large, scary-loud whistle to scare away woodpeckers that peck on our house, deer that eat our precious plants, and assorted other wild animals that pose a threat to pets. After it first arrived, I tested it inside and scared myself -- so I knew it would work. So far, so good. A mob of four deer visited our backyard for a leisurely brunch the other day. Three toots and they moved on . . . quickly. Nevertheless, a word of caution. If you have sensitive hearing, cover your ears when you toot. The whistle is that piercing. Very well-made. Should last forever. Definitely worth the price when I purchased it.

I live in rural Texas. Sound carries A LONG WAY out here. LOL This thing echoed ALL OVER the neighborhood at 5:15 PM Central Time. I blew it while the sun was still out. God this thing is loud. I'm 57 and I bought it in case I get in trouble, in parking lots and etc. This is the REAL deal. Heavy and solid. No thin metal piece of crap. This is thick and heavy so, it will last. Like I said, I bought it get attention if I'm in trouble or assistance. I tried it out twice and thoroughly convinced I made the right the choice. I paid 9.14 and it was well worth it. Get one for protection. Or, get a Acme Police Whistle. You need one in case you get in trouble and have nothing else. IT WILL GET ATTENTION! Every dog in the neighborhood started barking after I blew it. I ordered it on June 29th and it arrived July 11th. It took sometime to get to me so, don't get discouraged. Yes, it was worth the wait.

Pretty cool little whistle. I got it cause I live in a mountain town with tons of birds and after learning how to use it (which took some time) I’m getting attention from all the little birdies. Exactly what I wanted lol I have lots of practice to do cause I feel like I’m making distress calls only but idk, the birds are coming around and chirping back. Goal achieved lol

The Acme Thunderer whistle – large, is a mighty fine whistle! On a recent TV train journey Michael Portillo visited the Birmingham factory of J Hudson & Co – now known as Acme Whistles – and watched these whistles being made. The love and attention that went into their production made me want one – although I don't have a serious need for one other than as a bit of fun. I'm really glad I bought one as it is a genuinely lovely thing – British engineering and manufacturing at it's best! Whatever your need I'm sure you will not be disappointed with an Acme whistle.

This is a very sturdy whistle that is very easy to make a great sound. I ordered Saturday afternoon and it was here less than 24 hours later!

Really high quality. I do not know why they call it brass. It is looks like stainless steel.

Now they can here me!!!!! Does the job brilliantly. Loud, loud loud!!!!
