Rules for Writers Eighth Edition

I was required to get this book for my college English composition class and thought it was very helpful and well laid out. The book did a good job of explaining concepts and then giving example of how and when you would need to use them.This includes sections on grammar concepts like commas, semi colons and dash but also things like how to do and annotated bibliography and how to format papers in MLA and APA styles. Before reading this book I had only written in MLA but after I knew how to format my APA style papers. This is really important because you never know what style a professor is going to ask you to use. It also had a very extensive section on how to cite material in a couple different styles which came in handy in other classes last semester as well. Some Professors and teachers will let you slide if your citations are a mess but there are other that will deduct points if they are not cited properly and while citation websites are great, they never seem to collect all the needed information and you are sure to get marked down if you do not do the citations by had. For these cases this book comes in handy. I would recommend this book to other college students or high school students.

You need this book! These are the rules for writers. Once you have this, you will know the rules. Then you can start breaking them, one by one... making every English teacher sob silently into their coffee mugs.

I bought this book for my daughter, it was described in “good” condition... it was. It was a good buy.

Ordered for an English class and we didn't use it once. The professor told our class that it makes for a great bedtime story, and will have you knocked out within minutes of opening the book. I purchased it used and it came in excellent condition.

Looks like a well written book but sadly I don't need it this year, instructor decided she wanted a different book but supposedly I will need it next year, don't want to pay to ship it back. Not the book's fault my instructor changed her mind after the book list went out.

A really good book, that can help anyone become a better writer. The only problem is that the book does not cover the new MLA format.But it's not a deal breaker. However, I think the new edition should have the 2016 MLA update.

I used an earlier version of this book when I taught English. I love this book. I think the addition of more exercises was a good choice. I'm not fond of the wire binding, but it makes it much less expensive, and it lays flat, so as long as a student is careful, it works really well.Excellent book, and a great reference.

Our professor recommended us to use in the academic writing course.
