Really does what I needed it to.
As with some of the other reviews - I did find the length of this a little short to be really comfortable to use - but, if you check, it is the length they say so was to be expected. (An extra length of tube in the handle would be good - should be simple to do as they bolt together and I vaguely recall seeing this option with other brands!) That said - I found it easy to assemble. Slightly fiddly to line up holes but really not that tricky. It feels really sturdy and best of all it is great to break through ground where a spade cannot get through. Living in a newer house there is always a lot of rubble etc under the surface soil and over the years I have actually bent the prongs on a good sturdy digging fork trying to get through to create space to get a spade in to dig holes! With this 'screw action' (like the action of tunnel boring machines) I have been able to get through far better and at least break up the area I need to dig out for tree planting. Overall - I have been very happy with this and it certainly does what I needed it to.

Just about right
If only it had one or two more lengths of pipe even it was a chargeable extra it would get 5 starIt’s sturdy enough though

Easy to use soil screw
Needed to make holes in very heavy clay soil. Is quite easy to use whilst soil is wet. Gets heavier once clay starts to dry out.Managed to drill out soil and fill three quarters with gravel for drainage then top back up with soil. Would have been easier if the handle was longer but is useable and certainly worth the money.

Great for digging deep holes
I found this auger relatively easy to use, I needed to make a deep hole in garden to fit my rotary clothes line and it certainly did the trick. It's a manual auger, and was fun to use. I will use it from now on for planting too.

Arrived with no lock bolts/pins.
Quite annoyed as I turned a fun day out with the whole family to try get the garden done in peace away from the kids, for the kids.Item arrived in perfect condition minus the locking bolts/pins.A lost day and lost time as I cannot proceed without this tool.

Good, but....
It's good, but the product description is rather deceptive and irritated me - 'NO MORE BACK STRAIN: It eliminates constantly bending over while drilling, and this rapid planter will drill through loose, even..' Well, yeah, it's pretty hard to get back strain by bending over when the tool you're using is only 60cm (2 feet) long! That's fine because the most you'll need to go down even with fence posts is 46cm (18 inches) but just know you'll be doing this job on your knees. Which is alright if you don't need to use that often and/or the soil is not like rock. If not, you will need to buy a proper longer version from someone else, so you can do it standing up and get your full weight behind the tool. In theory, you could add an extension tube to this one, but finding a suitable tube may well be a problem.I'm fine with how it is, because I knew exactly what is was like before I bought it, but ....
