Morgan JamesQuiet Road to Murder: A Promise McNeal Mystery

Morgan James is a superb novelist. I don't know how she does it, but each Promise McNeal mystery novel (this is the fourth) gets better and better. James puts the reader with Promise McNeal in the mountains of western North Carolina with such finesse that I the reader feel the weather, hear the birds, smell the forests and the foods cooking and know the people as our own friends and family. James weaves the plots (and there are several in each book) so intricately that though, try as I may, I cannot figure out the ending until she chooses to reveal it. If you enjoy reading mysteries, once you read this author, you will be hooked. Her novels are stand-alone; each one contains it's own murder(s) that must be solved. Promise McNeal is in all four novels (as are her family and friends). For this reason, I'm glad I began with Morgan James first novel because as all excellent authors are, James has the ability to develop characters and allow each one of them to grow through the difficulties of life.

Wow- another great Promise McNeal mystery! We get to spend a lot more time with the Allen family, including the exciting continuing story of Promise's husband Daniel, the interim sheriff, who is dedicated to solving the murder of his friend Mac. There's lots more skullduggery going on in the deceptively quiet Perry county, and the natural and supernatural play big parts in our character’s adventures. I was virtually flipping pages madly on my Kindle to see what was coming up next, and occasionally got wide eyes and hairs standing up on the back of my neck!

I love the way Ms. James develops the plots and leads you to the conclusion. Often I can predict the "killer" before I am one quarter through the book. Not here. I like her style of writing and always look forward to her next book. Once I start reading, I don't want to put the book down. Thank you.

Hey, this is the best Promise McNeal mystery yet...I loved it. The characters are real and the plot is strong (with an unusual twist into the paranormal). I am glad I bought the other Promise McNeal mysteries for my library and Quiet Road to Murder makes the collection even better.

Just love all of Morgan James Promise mysteries, they are great mysteries but not scary with a lot of southern flair.
