,
This was a replacement for a 1986 Mercruiser 140HP 3L engine. It originally had a Mercruiser Mando made alternator. Worked great for 35 years. The AMN002 fit perfectly, even the red and purple wire connectors matched. Be careful when taking the old clear heatsink material off the old red and purple lines ... dont mess up the mating female connectors. Also make sure you have a good battery. Is worth it to use a new battery if yours is old. In addition if your boat has some years on it ... you best clean your battery terminals and connectors. Also take the positive cables off you starter, and wire brush (use a brass brush) them and the starter stud bolt. Do the same for you negative (black) wire that goes from you battery to the engine block. On all the above connections if you are using bolted connections, make sure you use stainless steel lock washers too keep the connections tight. After installation make sure you monitor the temperature of your AMM002. I had a bad red wire battery connection and the temp of the new alternator reached 230 degrees F. Use a laser hand held digital temperature gun. Once I cleaned and tightened my red starter post the AMN cooled right down and now runs at about 115 degrees F. Keep an eye on you voltage between battery posts should be around 14vdc. Hope this helps!

Perfect fit!
The alternator was a direct replacement for the OE alternator and installed in less than 20 minutes. There was no guess work on the wiring as everything was color coded the same as the engine harness. The alternator has about five hours of run time so far and it is working flawlessly. I know there were some reviews about loud bearing noise but this one is good to go.

Good Value - 1988 454 Magnum
The part fit my 1988 model 454 Magnum. Boat is a 1988 Regal Velocity. Easy bolt-on - no modifications needed. Installed in about 10 or 15 minutes. It has been installed for about 1 month (5 or 6 boating days) and is working well.

Does not work, no support, no warranty
Overcharging with 15.15V.Amazon sends me to manufacturer, manufacturer sends me to Amazon, so in the end I have no technical support and they just keep me in the loop. I wanted to exchange it or be repaired under warranty, but Amazon does not offer exchange for the same item nor repairs (return only or exchange for the other useless stuff, even I still had 1 month for a return or exchange by Amazon), so literally no warranty either. Scam and bad product and bad manufacturer. No support. No warranty. Do not buy it. I have to return it and buy another one for a higher price because of the inflation…

so far . . .
so, on my 1989 mercruiser 5.7 260hp with EI, it went in smoothly--no issues, whatsoever. The wiring is unclear, but after staring at it for about 90 seconds, it all made sense. purple to purple, red to red, and then the other two wires on the only two posts that are set up to accept wiring. after one week, it is working well--amp meter reads about 14. i expect this unit to not last as long as the OEM, esp in the marine environment, but for this money, you can't go wrong, i'd say. it's basically a part that you can switch out, easily enough, every few years--hell, it's cheaper than a battery, for god's sake, and a lot easier to lift and dispose of

Fantastic alternator at a great price!
Direct replacement for my Mercruiser 4.3L - please check the current model of your alternator to ensure it's a direct fit as well. Bolted right up and was very easy to wire. The windings seem to be better than the original alternator that I had which means that more power (amperage) is available to me if needed (this is a good thing by the way - more amperage = better). Of note, I found a belt tensioner gauge tool (Continental 9001 Krikit Tension Gauge) VERY helpful in setting the correct belt tension. The "1/2 inch deflection" method simply isn't reliable and will result in improper belt tension. So far I've ran the alternator for ~ 60 hrs. without any troubles.

Works great
I installed it on my Mercruiser 260 (basically a SBC). I had to look up the wiring as it's a little different to connect, but found it easily enough. Way better value than Mercruiser or Sierra.
