USS Enterprise fought in every significant naval battle against the Japanese in WW2. The verbal narrative of these events pieces the pictorial evidence of her history into a most interesting book. It is disgraceful that she was not preserved as a museum-ship. Those who recommended her scrapping should have been tried, convicted and sentenced on her quarter deck. Did they escape justice because she was a flat-top without one? At least you can preserve her in your library, as I have done in mine. The LEAST you can do. So, do it!

キール据付から解体までの生涯を綴った写真集です。紙質がよく写真もかなり鮮明なものが多数掲載されています。レジュメはイメージ画像にありますのでそちらを確認していただくとして、数々の激戦をくぐり抜けた武勲艦の画像満載です。図面は無く記述要素も多くありませんが、その分写真キャプションが充実しています。カラー画像は数葉のみ、ほとんどがモノクロ画像で鮮明なものが多いです。構図としては艦全景が多いものの、飛行甲板上のクローズアップや艦内写真も掲載されています。有名艦だけに概知の画像が多いのですが、各海戦時に重点を置いているようで甲板や銃座の被害状況をクローズアップした画像など結構珍しいものがあり煙路上端の構造がハッキリわかる煙突上面の画像や1943年に試験的に設置された20ｍｍ機銃の連装と3連装（実用化されてはいないはずですが始めて見ました）など興味が湧く画像も色々あります。このシリーズは編集、画質、紙質などが大変バランスよく、現時点ではエンタープライズに関する資料としてコストパフォーマンスが高い大変良い資料だと思います。

I have other books by this same author and I am always satisfied by the written and photographed information presented. Very good pictures that really tell their own story. A must-have for actually absorbing rare photographs without getting too bloated in the written stuff.
