4500 Miles, As the Falcon Flies: Finding my family

This is a fascinating and thoughtful journey for discovery-of her ancestry, her people and ultimately herself. As anyone who has embarked on such a search can tell you, the path is endless, lined with mysteries and surprises, and always leaves some questions unanswered, perhaps forever. Ms Tabaka's writing style is clean and spare, like sharing a cup of coffee with a friend while she recounts the latest set of dates and destinations, deaths and final resting places. The individuals she describes come to life, though clouded by shadows of time and distance, and often enough, each new fact brings a new set of questions. Her passion to know her family history is contagious, and makes for great reading.

This is definitely worth a read. Christine has chronicled her search for her roots and the history of her immediate family in her usual soul-baring way. Raw yet elegant writing. I was completely captivated by her annals. She has seen Poland through the eyes of her distant family. I so wish her luck to someday spread those Falcon wings of which she has now become so proud and see Poland with her own brave eyes.

The search for one's roots runs deep within us. Christine undertook that task and tirelessly researched her family. The results were not always what she wanted them to be but she was unfailingly honest about them. I laughed, cried, rejoiced and was saddened but through it all I was fascinated! This book is a must read for anyone searching for answers about their past and a look into their future! Loved it!

I was enthralled by the author's compassion and dedication to find her her father's ancestors. As her mother had been adopted, it was more difficult to locate her family, but she pursued. I read it in one day. It would make a great TV movie.

This was a touching saga of the author's quest to pursue her Father's Tabaka family history. She honored us by inviting us along for her truly inspiring journey. Undertaking such a monumental, expensive and possibly painful task would daunt anyone. But, her unwavering fortitude, sheer determination and ongoing financial investment allowed her family's Polish heritage to unfold, sooner than later. What sheer luck that otherwise perfect strangers, here and abroad, offered her invaluable assistance in unearthing documents that brought the puzzle pieces together. I am now more motivated than ever to pursue a more extensive search for my family!
