Super handy when you need a leash handy..
I have two dogs that are about the same size… a two year old German Shepherd and a one year old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Since we live in the country my digs are mostly off leash unless we go to town for something. But every so often someone comes up the driveway or a critter gets into the yard and I need to be able to control them while I’m still working on verbal command training.Enter Lazy Leash. When I saw the ad on Facebook I thought maybe, just maybe, this was the answer I needed. Turns out it was just that.Since my dogs have totally different personalities their “leash requirements” are often different. The RR is pretty good at her recall now but if there’s prey in the yard her ears become inactive. Being able to grab the Lazy Leash and push the button to let out the leash until we’ve checked out the yard is great. Once I know she’s gonna stay around I can I clip it or just retract it and let her hold it.My Shepherd is timid, shy, and uncertain in a lot of situations. She’s a rescue and not much is known about her precious owners. I know she’s not going to run off to chase a rabbit or squirrel but if someone comes up the driveway she goes into full protection mode. That’s where the Lazy Leash comes in. I hear the vehicle coming and engage the leash. Once she’s met whoever it is and is comfortable they are not a threat I retract it and let her be.The small size of Lazy Leash means I’m not lugging around two leashes (or even one) and I can retract it and keep it attached to their collars without them feeling tied down or being spooked by the leash dragging behind them. When we go into stores with the dogs, I have the Lazy Leash clipped to my belt loop in case an extra set of “hands” is needed while working the RR to stop her pulling. I’ll sometimes clip the LL to the ring on the front of her harness and use it along with the main leash to provide more precise control in situations with a lot of distractions. This is really a neat little product and I’m glad I found it.A couple things to note: a lot of people have complained about the length. I suppose if you have a small dog and are a tall person this could be an issue but my 5’5” self with two medium height digs finds it perfect. If I’m leashing a dog in a hurry I want them close to me… not zipping four or five feet away from me where they could still get into trouble. The length of Lazy Leash is just enough to let them walk a comfortable distance from me but not so much that they’re getting all tangled up or wrapping it around my legs. Also note that the leash material is very lightweight and thin. This is done so that the leash can retract inside the pod without it being too bulky. I have noticed a couple times that it will twist up a bit which stops it from retracting fully, however the clip is on a swivel so it’s easy to untwist and retract it without having to remove from the dog’s collar. The button does seem to stick a bit from time to time but I feel that the more I use it, the easier it’s getting. Barring any twists in the leash material, as noted above, it’s usually a pretty smooth action to release and retract the leash.I saw one review somewhere where the person was upset that they had to hold the button in while extending the leash. If this bothers you, be warned, however I like that feature because I have complete control over how much leash is released. As the dog moves away I can simply release the button and it stops. It doesn’t ratchet in and out like a traditional retractable leash and I’m perfectly fine with that since I prefer my dogs to keep a loose lead rather than having a taught line between us.I’d love to see it offered in additional colors but completely understand that it may be limited to keep production costs down. Regardless of what color they’re offered it, I definitely recommend getting one.Full disclosure: I did receive my first Lazy Leash at a discount as part of a Facebook promotion in return for my honest opinion. The manufacturer has in now way asked me to change my review as a result of this promotion. This is my personal opinion. I will absolutely be ordering a second.

Great for off-leash training/trained dogs
Bought this after seeing an ad on Facebook and thought it might come in handy. I didn’t realize that this would be a must-have that we utilize daily! I’m shocked that it’s survived all of our adventures despite the weather wear and tear! I’ve been doing off-leash training with my pup since she was only a few months old and Lazy Leash is the most convenient item ever! Despite how well she does off-leash now, it’s always nice to just have a leash ready to go in instances like when walking a trail and passing by rowdy dogs.On occasion the button mechanism can get a little jammed, but it’s an easy fix and after months and months of heavy use, it’s still in perfect working condition. It’s honestly really impressive how sturdy the leash is despite its small size (reference for strength - my pupper is <25# and moderately high energy). I’d say this is definitely worth the money even if just for convenience of the size. Would definitely buy this again and have already recommended it to several friends and passerbys who’ve commented on how neat it is. I really hope they come out with more colors in the future so she can match all of her other pink accessories!

Great concept, bad design
I had this for 11 months and didn’t use it much but I found a few things that bothered me every time I did. Keep in mind that maybe I had an older design and they already fixed the issues.Don’t get me wrong, the concept is great, and it is a great tool for off-leash training. However, it is a no-go for my pup’s safety and as he got older and much bigger, it highlighted the flaws.Pros: as stated previously, it is a great tool for off-leash training and has something to quickly hold your dog.Now the cons:1. Inside gets a bit rusty if the dog gets wet2. Sometimes the rail gets jammed and won’t retract (this is something I noticed at the very beginning but I could get passed it because it’s an easy fix)3. Now SAFETY: not sure if I got a bad design but the hook that goes on the dog collar opens OUTWARD. Meaning it will open if placed at a certain angle with slight pressure. This is something I noticed when my dog was a few months old but I thought it wouldn’t open as long as I hold the leash and my dog tries to pull… lol let me tell you how wrong I was! Not only it opened at a restaurant when my dog tried to turn and lay on the side, but it also opened when my dog saw a squirrel and made a sudden move in the opposite direction! Both times were fine because he was either calm or confused and we didn’t cause a scene. My dog eventually lost it because he likes to dive in the grass and « swim », well he lost the leash during one of those swims. Ever since that day, he thinks that the same motion unhooks any leashes on him so he doesn’t miss an opportunity to try.In our case, it’s no biggie and it’s cute/funny because although my dog is mischievous, he won’t go too far and eventually listens when his energy dies down after a long game of “catch me if you can” but I can see where this is a SAFETY issue for pets that will run for fun and get lost, or run to the next person and jump on them! Therefore, I will not recommend it for working breeds (eg: huskies, malamute, German shepherds, etc). IDK how their brain is wired but it’s something, they will outsmart this leash. I know because I have one and he is not the brightest, if anything, he is super goofy, extremely lazy, and is the type to not even try when things get hard.

Very Convenient for walking my dog from the car to the off leash park.
I wanted a tiny leash I could put in my pocket for when I'm at the off leash dog park, this is even better (the dog carries it around instead of me). I use it every day, works exactly as described for my dog (he's 75 pounds).

Very handy, well made.
Very handy, well made although occasionally the button can be a wee bit sticky.
