Not for beginners.
If you're interested in Libgdx and game development using Java, then I'd recommend this book.It contains the level of detail that I was after and this book has really helped me understand how to make good use of Libgdx.I found the section on maps, texture packing and box2d particularly useful and interesting. The samples that accompany this book (available on GitHub) are also really helpful and I found them the right level of difficulty, but that's because I am a seasoned Java developer. If you're a Java beginner, then I would not recommend this book, since it deep-dives in the World of Libgdx and it won't help you out if the sample Libgdx programs do not work.I worked my way through this book using Android Studio and put together several Android Apps.

I received a copy of this book a few weeks ago and I absolutely recommend it. I haven't had time yet to have a read at all the chapters, but there are some really good tips and techniques here that I will surely use for my small projects. It's really easy to read, and you will find good explanations throughout the book about why you should use an specific technique followed by code and pictures to see the final result. I guess you can get the most of this book once you have some experience with libgdx, but I guess also people with previous experience with other game engines will find this book useful, as it also explains how to set up a project from scratch. To summarize, if you are into 2D games, and specially, using libgdx, I can't find a reason why you shouldn't have this book!

Nice self-contained recipes to get from beginner to expert in Libgdx
I've been a developer for close to ten years now, and I've had my fair share of game development back in the day. Hence I know for a fact that game development is a complex topic. There are a lot of books on the matter, some of them good, most of them pretty bad. This Libgdx Cookbook stands out among a lot of many mediocre books published by Pack publishing (like the shameful Ogre 3D 1.7 Beginner's Guide) for being one of the best recipe-based books out there that also works well as well as a traditional learning guide. The recipes in this book are properly thought-out and totally self-contained. They're what you'd expect to find whenever you google something like "How to show an image in libgdx" or "Detect user input libgdx" - but right in your hands, in a book. In addition to covering the basics (like simple 2D graphics and user input), the book also dives into more advanced topics, such as user interface design, cross-platform tips and tricks, third-party tools, and something really important: source code revision control (particularly Git). That's welcome, because you can feel the book has been written out of experience and solves real problems, not just some mumbo jumbo written for the sake of it.It should be noted that Libgdx is a wonderful game development framework that covers pretty much all the needs that could arise during the development of a cross-platform 2D game. It's easy to use by newcomers, and also pretty powerful for more seasoned developers. A cookbook like this for something like, say, SDL or SFML would be twice as thick and much harder to follow by beginners.Once you know the fundamentals about game development and are ready to put hands on deck, this book will give you all the tools to get up and running in no time.

Great book for all levels.
This is a must-have book for anyone doing Libgdx development. The recepies in this book are detailed and well thought out. It makes a great desk reference as well as an introduction to the features available in Libgdx and some best-practices for using them. Even for seasoned developers you may find new features that you didn't know existed.

Sorprendido
Para ser un libro de segunda mano está muy bien, solo tenía levantada un poco una de las esquinas, y me ha llegado pronto. Todo perfecto 👌

It's dated. But still useful.
Great book. I have 2 apps in the play store with this book's help. HOWEVER as of writing it is a tad dated. There are new ways to setup the library. Some framework has changed. ESPECIALLY Since RoboVM has died (which allows you to port to iPhone - all the alternatives are workarounds I found them cumbersome). If you are pushing for Android/Desktop this book is great. I would recommend Cocos2Dx or SDL or Cordova if you want to do fully cross-platform development.

A very good book on libgdx
A very good book on libgdx. Starting to show its age very fast as all detailed programming books do. Had no difficulty getting this to work with Android studio and the latest version of libgdx. Minor corrections needed

Awesome
Awesome book! Sometimes a little challenging to understand but really helpful. I recommend a bit of experience with java, and maybe also a little knowledge with libgdx first, to get you going better!
