fantastic, new school learning in catching and releasing pike, with care
See how he's holding that pike on the cover? Did you know that holding them vertically disconnects the internal organs and drastically reduces the chances of survival upon release? Did you know that moving them back & forth to get them livened up for return to the lake actually reduces their chances of survival as well? Read on, there's much more to learn. The man is not sitting writing books about it, he's out there catching them and shares what he knows not just about successful releases, but successful catches. Man does he have the ideas and tips, how to catch the attention of that big pike who keeps on watching your lure stroll by each time you cast, how to look for the signs in terms of weather and location, what line, lure, and equipment to select. It's all there and more. Buy this book, you won't be disappointed. And when you are out there, you will recall all he taught you, and you can then teach others, not the old school way, the new school way.

Owner
Out of the more than 2 dozen fishing books I've read or owned, this is the one I like best. I'd read anything on fishing Mr. Penny has written. I;ve only found a few magazine articles. Wish there was more.

Good information but all the pictures are in black and white. What good is a fishing book that describes fishing lures and lure colors if all the pictures are in black and white. I would like a color copy.

Learning to fish better
I have been fortune to fish with my father in the last few years in Canada and have landed some large Pike - over 40", yet out of our group of 3 still manage to bring in the smallest fish. My father and friend have been going up to various parts since the 70's and I only have a couple of years into this, thus needed to learn more. This was a good book and it covered a lot of information which I would recommend, yet if you only had to purchase one book I would suggest "Pike" by Al Linder. Northern Pike would be my second choice and both were good reads. I feel a little more prepared this year.
