watched a lot of youtube videos...
Item works well. Doesn't take up much room, and stores easily.Made sushi for the first time with 3 other people who had never made it and most of us were fine. We used wax paper this time but I hope to get food storage bags like other reviewers suggested, otherwise you will need a brush to get the mats clean.Watched lots of youtube on how to roll sushi and I highly recommend you doing so as well. The rice included instructions on how to make sushi rice and we found no benefit to roasting our Nori a second time as one recipe recommended. We seemed to struggle to get the ingredients to spread evenly since the ends of the roll would fall apart when cut but that is not a fault of the product, just user error.I do have one complaint, the spoon and spreader seems to be splintering just the slightest amount. Normally it helps keep the rice from sticking if everything you are using has been soaked so I am not sure how much worse the splintering would be if we had actually soaked them. They should probably also be oiled in between use with an oil that won't get rancid. The chop sticks are great, they look impressive in person and feel like a better quality material than the spoon and spreader and are worth the $7 on their own (in my opinion). You can't beat $7 for what you get. Though if you really want to be cheap about it, forget the spoon, grab some free chopsticks from the sushi part of the grocery store and use just small bamboo placemats to roll your sushi. I only used the set once and am looking forward to sushi making as a weekly thing. I am also considering buying more as gifts to go with the DIY pre-assembled binder cook books I plan on gifting as well.

Such a small purchase for so much yummy fun! The mats work beautifully
Such a small purchase for so much yummy fun! The mats work beautifully, and when covered with plastic wrap do not need to be washed. The rice paddle was definitely useful and I believe it is a tool that really does make a difference when stirring the vinegar into the rice. Quality items for a very low price. Having two mats is definitely the way to go so that you don’t have to work alone and it becomes a fun activity, and dinner is ready faster. If you are debating ordering these items (this set of mats and paddles, a sharp knife, and sushi ingredients) like I was, vs just ordering takeout sushi, you won’t regret giving it a try! Dinner and entertainment all in one : )

High quality, easy to use!
I have never made sushi in my life. Never even attempted it. Tired of paying high prices for something I figured I could make at home for pennies on the dollar, I purchased this kit. First of all, it came VERY quickly. The packaging was of a higher quality than I was expecting and the items looked exactly like the product photo. The bamboo mats are not flimsy. They are very sturdy and stand up to pressure placed on them to form the sushi into a compressed shape. The wooden tools are a nice weight and quality as well. They have stood up nicely to hand washing.I was able to watch a brief YouTube video on making sushi at home and then attempted it myself. The results were amazing. The bamboo mats functioned perfectly and I had nicely compacted rolls within minutes.Great product!

Nice set but has a few flaws
Just got this set today alitlle before noon i haven't used it yet. This review will be on the items only and not on making sushi with them. So I'll have to come back to update at a later time. Now the is set looks lovely when you first open the box. The black and red contrast look elegant. You"ll first see Five pretty chopsticks with a spiral twist patten, One rice paddle, One rice spreader and the two mats are at the bottom after lifting out the tray holding the utensils. The chopstick are simple elegant that I'd use them for my table display if it didn't look odd among my porcelain set.Now on closer inspection more than one item has a few flaws:One of the roller mats have a some edge splintering and one small divet in the middle "picture included" I shouldn't have to but I'll just have to use saran wrap with that one.The spreader has a slightly raised splintered "picture included" edge not bad enough I'm a bit wary of splinters in my food. The handle is fine there. So out out of a set of 9 items 2 are while flawed are still usable so I'll keep the set would not buy this one again but for what it is I like the chopsticks and the rice paddle is fine. This is my opinion as I know others would return after seeing a brand new set with flaws it shouldn't have and give it a lower score but my expectation of buying a sushi making kit online wasn't high to begin with anyway and thought I'd find more issues to be honest.

Great sushi making kit
I really like this sushi making kit. Good price and good quality. I felt like I got good value for what was included and enjoy experimenting with making sushi rolls. We wrapped the roller with plastic wrap, as we learned in a sushi making class in Japan, and it works well and makes cleanup easy.I ordered two more sets to have a sushi making party with friends to make dinner more interesting and engaging. Would recommend this item. The packaging is nice, too, so you can wrap as a gift too.

Don't Be Intimidated. Your wallet will thank you!
I bought two of these, one for myself and one for my daughter. My husband and I made sushi two nights in a row because we love sushi and found our new toy to be crazy easy! We started doing the math in our head about how much money we were saving and couldn't believe how foolish we have been paying the high price of restaurant sushi.I checked with my daughter for her feedback and she said that she was in love with it. She is a vegan and is finding this to be quite an addition to her meal plans.Overall: mats roll with ease, even on the first try and the utensils at also wonderful. You really can't go wrong and will save a ton of money with this. Buying one set will match the price of one sushi roll where I live. :)

If you prefer a flat stick roling mat, this one is not for you
Good quality product but when I order I did miss that the mat was made of round stick. The flat one's make the sushi rolling job a old lot easier
