I bought these because one of my 12 year old chihuahuas has slipped on the stairs and hurt her shoulder 3 times now. These have been fabulous, not only for her, but for us too! I didn't realize how slippery our wooden stairs were until I installed these. We are all a lot safer now. I bought these because of the adhesion. I didn't want to put nails, glue or 2-sided tape on the wood. Although the adhesive strips don't look like much and don't feel very sticky to the hand, they really work! Once properly installed they stay put and yet come up easily when necessary with out much residue and no damage to the stairs. Your stairs must have a smooth surface. Make sure your stairs are clean and dry - no dirt, dust or dog hair. Put them down carefully, one at a time. It helps to know exactly how far from the sides and front & back you want them to be. You might mark your measurements with a bit of painters tape. Either put them down starting on one side smoothing them down to the other, or from the middle out, making sure you put slight tension on them as you lay them down and then press them in place. If they are bent or curved from shipping and won't lay flat, try warming them slightly with a hairdryer (on the carpet side) just until they relax.I have been extremely happy with this product and would highly recommend it. If I have any complaint, it is that they don't have a choice of colors. But once they were down, I forgot all about that. They look and work great.

We needed some temporary stair treads to protect some oak stairs while the room was still under construction. These were perfect for the job!

Super easy to install. I have these for my small 9 pound dog. She needs something sturdy on the stair treads to be able to go up and down without being scared she'll slip or fall (it has happened before). Now she roams freely and I don't have to carry her up or down the stairs. It's a win win situation. Only thing I don't love is that I cannot cut them to make smaller 1/2 sized rugs for the top of the two staircase landings so I had to get smaller ones that don't match. I tried on one and ruined it unfortunately. Otherwise they're great!

These are pretty thin but have worked fine.
