Q: how many are there in the box

Each box is one pound---I have calculated it and I came up with approx. 720 pcs in each box. Of course that is only an approximation due to them packing per weight and not amount of pins. Hope this helps.

Q: Are these soft or not. The soft ones dont provide a good hold for my daughter's bun. Please let me know. Thank you in advance!

These are not soft. I love them. They are great for long hair. After frequent usage, the black coating will begin to peel off.
