Q: Product page title says "taper fit." when added to cart, the item title says "straight fit". which is it?

We apologize for the confusion, there shouldn't be two different titles and we will try to get this fixed asap. But to answer your question.......the leg opening to the 541 Athletic fit jeans is slightly smaller but very close to our 513 Slim Straight and our 501 Original fit (which also has a straight leg opening).......HOWEVER, because the 541 Athletic fit has extra room in the seat and thigh (to accommodate an "athletic build"), the "appearance" of the leg opening is slightly tapered. In other words, the actual measurement is close to a straight jean but the jean LOOKS slightly tapered because the top half is looser. Does that make sense?

Q: Whats the difference between the color lake merrit and the color perseus? they pretty much look the same

Hi. The colors are similar (lighter shade of indigo) but the difference is the fabric content. Lake Merrit is a lighter weight (10.5 oz) stretch denim made of 92% Cotton, 7% Polyester and 1% Elastane. The Perseus fabric is from the Performance Strong collection and it's made of 93% Cotton, 4% Polyester, 2% Polyethylene and 1% Elastane. The fabric weight of Perseus is heavier (13 oz). Q: Just bought a pair of the 541 athletic fit jeans. Unbelievably, a 34/32 is fitting me. Are all the styles of 541 consistent in sizing?

No. I have owned two blue-jean colors size 30/32 that fit amazingly well. Just tried other styles of 541 on in store and wound up buying with a 32/32 (Caraway) in one color and a 31/30 (Stealth) in another color. This is one of the rare cases where I would suggest going to your local department store as they usually carry a decent selection in the 541 jeans in my experience.
