Q: What is its noise level when operating, in dB? I want to keep an adjacent walk-in closet ventilated

Intake room = 1.2 sones, target room = 1 sone. 1 sone = 40 Db. Average talking noise is 70 db.

Q: Can this unit also pull air from below the fan in the bay? (i have a buried hvac register in the same bay that may provide more heat/ac)

Hi Todd, I have purchased several of these, I manage a senior retirement community with 120 apt. Most of which are 1bed 1bath. These apts are heated and cooled with a Ptac unit (the through the wall unit that you see in many hotels). Our apts had an ugly duct attached to the ptac unit that ran through the wall to condition the bed room. I used these fans to transfer the conditioned air to the bedroom and removed the ugly ducts. The temp difference from the living room (where the ptac is) to the bed room runs only 2 to 3 degrees which works well for us. I'm not sure what kind of bay and buried hvac unit you have thus the reason for this long answer. I hope this helps you.

it is made to fit 16 inch studs

Q: In terms of placement, what if i want to transfer heat in the winter and ac in the summer? more or less centered in the wall vs high-low?

I use it as help for air conditioning , the fan is at the base of wall and the out let is high on wall at 4 to 5 ft high cold air is near the floor you push the air to 4 to 5 feet into room
