Why did I wait so long to buy this?
If you own land or live near an open space where you can legally shoot then you need buy this target! I worked at a beautiful outdoor range for 3 years so I never needed this type of target but recently I moved out to the sticks where I can shoot just a few miles from home. I needed/WANTED an AR500 steel target like we had at mu old range. This target did not disappoint. I was worried because I've heard bad stories about some steel targets sold on Amazon but I lucked out with this one being my first choice/order. I've shot .223, 5.56, 9mm and .45 black powder round balls at it without so much as a dent. The target rests at a downward angle thus deflecting rounds into the ground and not back at you. Having said that, obviously you do NOT want to shoot .223/5.56 at the target closer than 50 yards. Pistol caliber (NOT magnum) - I shoot no closer than 15 yards. BE SAFE!Assembling the base took some time because it is like a jigsaw puzzle LOL. But once it is assembled you never need to take it apart. I have a small car and everything including a 4' length of 2'X4' fits in the trunk. When setting up at the range carry the plate separately. You do NOT want that bolt snapping and the plate landing on your foot. That would be ER time.Tip:1. Buy extra screws and bolts and take them with you to the range. I found the exact same ones at my local hardware store. Take the originals with you to the hardware store to match them up. I did this because on my second day at the range I shot a notch the through the bolt head (pictured) using 55gr .223 FMJ at 200yds. and will eventually break the bolt. This is not a defect of the target or hardware. This happens at EVERY range and to EVERY steel target. You're just not there to see it happen. As an RSO I have seen it MANY times.2. Take a can of gloss white or fluorescent colored spray paint with you to paint over your hits. Clean/dry the target when you get home and then repaint it to protect from corrosion.

So fun!
Shooting steel is SO MUCH MORE FUN than Paper. These are easy to transport, and have held up well to both 9mm and 5.56mm at ranges as short as 7 yards. I wish these were a bit less expensive, I would buy more. :)

The best steel target setup for the money!
To finish this kit I used a 4' 2x4 (directions suggest using 3') and after putting it all together, it was very wobbly. Part of the issue had to do with the half-inch bolts and nuts that stick up from the bottom inside the 2x4 holder. I fixed this by drilling two holes on the bottom of the 2x4 and using wood shims on the sides. Now it fits snug like lego bricks. The way I have my target setup, it's stable enough to handle a nice breeze, but the height makes it a little top heavy. Nothing a pair of socks filled with sand throw onto the feet of the stand won't solve. The AR500 12x20 3/8" Silhouette Target is top notch. It comes painted white, the size is perfect, and the quality was better than expected. Most importantly, the sound is just what you would expect from a steal target. The target holder (cap) is simple and does the job. I would have preferred a spring or an AR500 steel hook but whats included works and can always be replaced at a later date. I may add a spring or a nicer looking grade 8 bolt at some point in the future, but it really doesn't need it.As for the stand, here is where improvements could be made. For example, I really wish the manufacturer would have added a thumb screw to the base. At the very least, it just needs a hole on the back of the stand so you can can use a screw to secure the 2x4. The length of the feet could also be a few inches longer to improve stability. The best thing about this stand is the value you get. I paid $129.99 when it went on sale after 4th of July. I looked at products from Steel Targets, Action Targets, and others. A similar setup would have easily cost $100-$200 more! So the value here is incredible. However, next time I'll get the package that doesn't include the stand and get my stand from another vendor. The include stand works, but for my purposes, I would like something that lets me move the targets without taking it apart. That's my only real complaint about this setup. IMO, that's not enough to dock a star.

Needs better instructions
4 stars because of the bottom stand and lack of instructions—it’s a little frustrating to assemble, but thankfully they include two pieces that keeps the stand assembled forever after that if you so wish. It’s not clearly evident what those pieces do at first (a thin metal bar curved up at both ends, and a long bolt with a fastener), but I finally figured out the bar goes inside the bottom square of the stand, and the bolt goes through some holes and secures it there, keeping the stand together. They had no instructions here or on their website, and for a while I thought I’d have to re-assemble the puzzle-like stand pieces every time I wanted to shoot.

Great target
Love this target. I have about 300/400 rounds on target so far and I see no stress marks, no steep dimpling from rounds. I’ve hit it with 7.62x39, .308, .30-06, M855 and M193, 9mm, .45 ACP, .357 mag, and no stress marks or steep dimpling! Saw this exact target at turners and they sold out quick so I took to Amazon and I have 0 regrets. Just make sure to keep a can of spray paint with you because once you hear that ring, you don’t want it to stop

Best value for steel targets, just buy it
Best value in a steel target setup I've found to date. Beyond supplying the 2x4 its plug and play. Base is a bit of a loose fit to the 2x4, as mentioned in other reviews, but it's easily fixed. Rather it be loose than too tight to fit the lumber without shaving it down. Steel holding up well. I've shot thousands of pistol rounds, only scratching the paint. Only damage has come from 5.56 and 300 blackout subs. To be fair, they were at 50 yards for giggles, and that's outside of the targets rating, no fault of the target. 5.56 made tiny pits, the 208gr subs made deeper, though shallow pitting.Only con I can find (and I'm stretching), is the base is a bit of a hassle to move due to its size, but it also keeps the platform solid. Yet to try it with heavier calibers, but gong targets are more suited for that.Biggest problem is now I need a few more lol
