Da Vinci Large 18" Leatherette Backgammon Set - Brown

I recently got into playing Backgammon. I wanted a set to begin playing the game of Backgammon. I came across this 18" Large Backgammon set from Da Vinci. I did want a larger set to play on. So this one seemed to fit my needs. There have been some negative reviews about this set. So I was hoping that I wasn't going to receive a lemon. Turns out that I got a really well made Backgammon set. Didn't experience any of the negative things about the product that was said in other reviews. With one exception. There was a small bit of dried glue that was on the outside of the case itself. Since the outside is not the playing field. It wasn't much of an issue to be upset over. It is there and needs to be informed upon but as long as it isn't a huge glob or on the inside on the playing field. It's really a non issue to cry about. The points are tan & brown in color. They are not stitched on nor are they inlaid either. I would have to guess that they are silk screen printed upon the felt like fabric. The playing field is a vanilla white color. So it is a bright and vibrant color scheme all and all. The checkers are 1.25" X .25" in Brown & Ivory colors. It matches with the colors of the board and are not hard to miss out on the field. The dice are pipped brown and white dice. Measuring at just under .5" along with the doubling cube. There is plenty of room to upgrade to a bigger size of doubling cube and dice. The dice cups are lined with the same felt like material and have a lip inside to aid in dice tumbling. They are basic oval NASCAR shaped track dice cups. Just because you are sent Brown and Ivory checkers and dice. Doesn't mean that you are stuck with them. Gammon Village is an online Backgammon supplier that offers a wide range of accessories for Backgammon. They offer checkers in other colors options in the same 1.25" X .25" checker measurements. So change it up a little if you grow tired of the Brown and Ivory colors for your checkers. Same too goes for your dice and doubling cube. This set is just under tournament regulated USBGF size. It is an option to use at the club and or family and friends game night. A really good entry level casual play Backgammon set. I am sure over the years of use. Things will start to fall apart and break but at this cost. It doesn't hurt as bad as a $100+ set. If you have realistic expectations. You will not be disappointed in purchasing this set. I would recommend this to a casual player and for gift ideas.

If you want to, and should, start playing backgammon, this is a nice, inexpensive board you should get. The points are not stitched as in other cheaper boards, which I prefer. The checkers may dwindle on stitched points. At 18 inch, is the largest of the smaller boards. The price is right, better than the competition for sane size boards. Highly recommended.
