Good Balance of Science, Steampunk, and Romance with Strong Lead Female Character
A Trace of Copper is the story of two people brought together to solve an obscure medical mystery who once shared a very heated past. Dr. Piyali Mukherji of the Queen's agents is sent to a Welsh town to figure out why a lesion on a young woman is turning blue. Evan Tredegar, the pharmacist in said Welsh village and Piyali's former lover, provides his expertise as they team up to solve this mystery. Can they accomplish this goal without being too distracted by emotions and words left unsaid? I appreciate a nice, strong independent and intelligent woman with an innovative mind. Dr. Piyali Mukherji, the female lead, fit that role quite nicely. Ms. Renwick provides a good balance of scientific details and explanations for why events are happening in the book when it comes to the medical mystery. The romance piece of it was a bit sudden, but I believe this was the intent considering Piyali and Evan had a passionate past. Piyali's reaction to the women of the town fawning over Evan was entertaining. I like that Ms. Renwick told the story in such a manner to allow readers insights into what the respective main characters were thinking/feeling. It helped to complete the story for me. I definitely look forward to reading more from this author.

Fun steampunk romance read; love all of Renwick's steampunk books!
Series Info/Source: This is the first book in the Elemental Steampunk Tales series. I bought this for KindleStory (4/5): This was a fun story about a young doctor who is forced to journey to a remote Welsh town in order to solve the mystery of blue lesions turning up on a young woman’s skin. She is also there to make an offer to Evan Tredegar, who is the town’s pharmacist and a man she has quite the history with.I enjoyed the mystery behind the rogue frog and the strange disease it spread. I also enjoyed all the tie-ins with Piyali being a Queen’s agent.Characters (5/5): The characters are definitely the highlight of the story here. I loved both Evan and Piyali, they had great chemistry together.Setting (4/5): The setting was also fun. I liked the remote Welsh village and enjoyed the subtle steampunk elements throughout.Writing Style (4/5): Renwick’s books are always so fun and easy to read. I really enjoy the in-depth medical knowledge and science she includes in her books. I have really enjoyed every single one of her books that I have read.Summary (4/5): Overall this was a fun and quick steampunk romance read. I enjoyed the characters and the mystery they set out to solve. These books are always well written and incredibly fun to read. I plan on reading everything Renwick has written, I love all the science and medical information she weaves into these steampunk stories as well.

Good short story
Trace of Copper is the first story in the Elemental Steampunk Tales series. This is a novella that takes place in Anne Renwick’s steampunk world. I read Tin Rose earlier this year and since I enjoyed that I decided to pick up this one.I enjoyed the story but I went though this book feeling like I missed something. I have not yet read the actual novels that are in this world so I very well may have missed something. I am not sure who I am going to give the first novel in this series a chance before I make any decisions. This story is a second chance romance, and I liked the story for what it was but the angst felt a little forced. I didn’t have the feelings that I normally do when there is angst. I think that I was mostly frustrated with Evan. If he would have been honest from the beginning instead of ignoring Piyali things would not have gotten so bad. Yes, I know then we would not have the story we do. If he was half as smart as the book claimed him to be then he should have reached out from the beginning instead of making them both miserable and risking the safety of the whole village.I really did enjoy the story when I was reading it I just wanted to shake Even the entire time.

Great take on Steampunk/clockworkpunk with strong female (and male) characters!
I apparently deleted my “in process” review of THE GOLDEN SPIDER, first book of Anne Renwick’s Elemental Web Chronicle trilogy, but to sum up this second book (and third): great world building (alternate Victorian London), fresh slant on steam punk, strong and stubborn female main character, incredible “clockwork” and real creatures, espionage, romance, murder mystery....While the relationship of Lady Amanda, a rare aristocratic female medical student, and Lord Thornton, a dour, secretive professor begins in animosity, their unwilling attraction grows but never becomes the trilogy’s main feature (or sole complicated relationship). I Highly recommend Anne Rewick and her Elemental Web Chronicles (and Tales). Just preordered the 4th Elemental Web Tales book.

Not bad, not as good as some.
This was not as much fun for me as The Golden Spider or The Silver Skull. The plot didn’t seem to draw me in quite as much and felt paced a little differently. I did not relate to the characters quite as much and I felt like this book felt just a little forced when compared to the others.

Great steampunk
I enjoy Anne’s way of melding history and sci fi. Trace of Copper has a strong female character. I love the use of more modern equipment wrapped in a description of antique equipment.I have read all of Anne Re wick’s book and enjoyed them all.

Very captavating with a new heroin to be proud of. Something even my 13 year old granddaughter would enjoy reading. This is by far one of the best books i have sat down and read. In ages.
Most pleased with the way it was written so even my 13 year old granddaughter could read. I enjoyed this book tremendously. I haven't enjoyed a book like this in a long time. Please keep up the good work and I look forward to reading more of your books in the future.

Beyond boring
I had read 'The Goldenspider' & 'The Silver skull' and thoroughly enjoyed them but no other Anne Renwick novel has lived up to them. I only finished the book ( with difficulty) last week and couldnt tell you the plot. Boring, tedious and dull. Dont bother. I rarely leave reviews but when i finished the book I decided that it was so poor that I had to make other potential readers aware. Spend your money elsewhere.

Fabulous as always
I love Anne Renwick’s steampunk series. She’s become one of my favourite authors and I always pre-order her books. She skillfully writes romantic steampunk mysteries. Her characters have depth and act consistent with their personality. I like that she does not rely on deux machina to resolve her mysteries. If you haven’t already check out the Compendium on her website, you should! It’s got tons of background material on all her books and is a great reminder if you’ve forgotten anything or didn’t understand a technical term.

Planning for the future
A story from within the Elemental Web universe, but one that can be read without reading the rest of the series, this was an exciting story that comes from the quality I expect in this series. My only complaint it that it wasn't just a little bit longer.Evan and Piyali met and fell in love, but they both had school and jobs they wanted to pursue countries apart. Planning to meet again in five years and marry, Piyali instead comes back to find that Evan does not want her any longer. But when a mysterious illness brings Piyali out to where Evan has been hiding away the two reconnect and secrets come to light.I enjoyed the relationship between Evan and Piyali. Star struck in love when they first met, and with similar family histories, they had courted but they had not gone through any hard times together. This new disease along with their disagreements about how to best go about giving treatments and help were the first test to their relationship. They needed to see if they could work together and compromise, or their relationship was doomed from the start. As with any book in this series there was a little bit of intrigue. It came from a source I did not expect and I really enjoyed it. I wish there had been a bit more follow up on that front, but hopefully we will see more in the coming series!
