Q: Does the spool tension knob clicks?

No I don't believe it does I sent the 2 back I got worst reel ever not worth it

Q: Will this work on a shimano glf 7 foot rod?

Yes it will work on that rod. I’d recommend using a light/medium rod with a fast action. I personally use this reel for a Texas rig. Don’t throw anything heavy over 1/2 oz tho. It doesn’t do well with braided line either. At least my experience with it.

Q: how does it compare to the Zephyr ?

Zephyr is a finesse / shallow spool for light line, light lures. Valiant Eagle is regular / average depth spool. I use mine for everything but finesse.

Q: How does this hold up to inshore salt water fishing?

Never used the reel in Salt water but I think the poundage in drag should be enough for a Salty creature. Always rinse after use.
