While there are a number of errors in the book, it is still a fun read.

I have this book on my coffee table, and every day I open it and I am transported into a world of beauty and knowledge. The historical research is deep, as documented by the extensive bibliography, and the writing is brilliant. The photography is original and stunning. What a treat for the eyes and the mind!

The photos are beautiful and text is intellectually rigorous and at the same time charming, enticing and provocative. It is rare to find a coffee table book with such literate text.
