Beautiful story and illustrations
The illustrations are magical, Gaspard is a rich character, and the story is captivating, though a bit long for young children.

Gaspard the Fox
Based on a real urban fox from Islington, Gaspard now has an impressive social media following!Measuring around 24.75 cm square, this is the first title in the series. The colourful card cover opens to 36 good quality numbered, matte finish pages, the story running from pages 4-33 over double page spreads. Page 2 offers the chance to claim ownership (image below refers). With more words than usual in a picture book, the seemingly simple at first glance illustrations, from James Mayhew, have far more in them and, for me, are superbly matched, with meaningful facial expressions expertly capturing the moment...the rather haughty looking cat & scruffy looking dog that are destined to become friends. The text, with some speech, a touch of humour, and ENHANCED at times for emphasis, is a reasonable size and includes chunkier words such as:~ cautiously, savouring, distinctive, unfamiliar, panicked, clumsily, encouragement, astonishment, gleaming, dignified, exhausting, bristling...not forgetting ‘lepidoptery’(!)From the back cover, which features the 3 main characters:'🦊 Come with Gaspard the Fox as he sets out one summer evening in search of supper. On his travels he meets Peter the cat and Finty the dog who help him navigate the local canal with its colourful boats and people ~ some friendlier than others!First in a series of urban adventures with Gaspard and his friends by broadcaster Zeb Soanes and artist James Mayhew.’[8 images attached © Zeb Soanes/James Mayhew & GRAFFEG/2018]

A foxes tail for all the family...
... or should that be a ‘brush with a fox’? A delightful short story of a very special fox, which can be read along with the gorgeous illustrations on every page that makes the well written prose shine so very brightly. Would be fun to read to and show the very young, and read along with, as well as for the young at heart. One of those few books to read and look at and read again over the years... :-)

A meaningful story that encourages more understanding of our urban foxes
This is a present for a child who helps look after the urban fox who visits our garden. It’s interesting and educative. Foxes are not the villains they are made out to be!

Foxes Rule, OK?
This is an enchanting tale of two chums - one, a fox, the other, a cat. The story is based upon an actual city fox, so named Gaspard, by the author! Some view foxes as horrible hen-house invaders and others, like myself, view foxes as crucial scavengers in the hierarchy of the animal kingdom who happen to be sharp dressers with excellent taste in the finer things in life. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book, not just for children, but also for adults that have not lost their sense of wonder.

It’s okay
Text is a bit too complicated for the little ones I intended it for. Don’t like the dialogues very much.Nice pictures, though.

Went out of my way to get this book for my school library
This story is precious! Why can't I find this book in regular publication in the US? I'm a school librarian who gladly paid with my own money to get this book to add to my collection. It's in high demand with my animal loving readers.
