Q: We live in az. i do not want the doves to have access to this feeder but would like the cardinals to have access. would this feeder work for this?

This feeder is perfect I got it for the same reason. No enter for doves and pigeons but the bluebirds eat nicely. Not sure about cardinals but I think they are about the size as a a bluebird.

Q: What kind of seed are is everyone using for this feeder? My normal mixed seed is too big and the finch food too small.

Hello, thank you for your inquiry. It is recommended to use a seed mix such as "Red River Commodities Hello Birds Morning Bird Blend Bird Seed", "Kaytee Ultra Wild Finch Wild Bird Food", or small to medium sized black oil sunflower seeds for this bird feeder. Hope this helps.

Q: This feeder has no perches?

This feeder is built so that the smaller birds can land on the edge, continue through to the center, where the seed is. Larger birds cannot reach the seeds. There are no perches needed.

Q: would a suet log fit in this

I really doubt it. It's more of a thistle feeder, and I doubt the birds could get the suet out of it. The hole for the seed cage is only about 2" in diameter at the most.... We use it for sunflower seed after cutting the seed cage holes bigger. It is a well made and nice feeder though. Good Luck.
