Great Entry Level
Pros:2 Bay, so can use RAID 1 for resilience.Fast usb external port for transfering things acrossGood priceAsustor AI Apps are modernSuprisingly wide choice of apps/usagesEasy to use and setupLow power usage (about 12w)Can be turned on and off remotelyAsustor is owned by Asus, which is a good brandCons:Doesnt take 2.5" easily. But can leave it "floating" if an ssd as no movement involved. You can also get adapters (not just mounts) that solve this problem for an extra £5 on amazon.

It's a great entry level Nas
I watched a few YouTube reviews and knew before I started this wasn't going to be a beast for Plex and the like. That did not bother me so much as I was really looking for network storage and SMB file sharing. The two bays aren't hot swap but again this wasn't something I was concerned about.Straight out of the box I put in 2 X 8gb drives powered it up and updated the firmware. This took around 10 minutes. A further account setup for access outside of my LAN and we were off to the races. The software is really intuitive and adding more apps was painless. I used the pre installed Asus file manager software to copy over the contents of a couple of my portable hard drives. Average copy speeds from these drives over USB 3 was around 120/130 mbps which I found very acceptable. After that I mounted the Nas as a network drive and copied a couple of TB of data off my PC where I achieved slightly slower speeds of about 100 Mbps. Still quite acceptable.Other positives are the unit is almost silent in operation, goes to sleep and wakes up without issue. Streaming to multiple PC's and televisions etc. has been simple. There are lots of things I plan to try in the coming days like Bubble UPnP etc but so far this has more than met my expectations.I know how I am and this will be a gateway drug and it'll probably be replaced by a bigger better unit within 12 months but as an introduction to how convenient and useful a Nas is it's been a revelation. Can't believe I've gone this long in life without one.

Best Buy Basic 2-Bay SOHO NAS
Decent hardware for an inexpensive basic/entry-level 2-Bay SOHO NAS, having all the expected in-built functions, with brilliant documentation available online (before you buy!) and a great range of auto- installing extra applications to increase functionality as required. Only gripe is the nonsense of being prompted to download and install a program to access the admin interface to carry out initial setup, rather than simply being told the default system port to append to its router-assigned IP address. The joy of ordinary networking is that it doesn't require apps, just some basic knowledge!I had purchased a Terramaster F2-210, but it had to be returned because I couldn't set up the WebDav service (main reason for purchase), nor get sensible assistance from TM representatives on the official forum, or by email, to resolve the issue. (Their online documentation is basic at best for the obvious stuff, non-existent for anything more technical.)Setting up WebDav on the Asustor was a breeze; the documentation talks you through all the necessary steps, and the device itself auto-installs the necessary Let's Encrypt ACME client to obtain an SSl certificate (and the underlying Python code) and can be set to auto-update it. Great piece of kit, well supported.

Asustor NAS
Nice box. Easy to setup. Very quite. Lots of apps. Auto backup of iPhone photos, therefore no need to expand iCloud storage.

So much easier than a Synology NAS
Recently replaced my Synology DS119J with this Asustor unit. The DS119J, despite all its bells and whistles, decided that it didn't want to carry out simple real time backups using the additional apps that had to be installed. I followed many "this will fix it" guides but none of them did.Enter the Asustor: - I didn't want another Synology box as they all run the same DSM software.I bought the bare unit and transferred my 10Tb Seagate Ironwolf over. The drive has to be reformatted before use - so make sure that you back up your data elsewhere first! The formatting didn't take long and with very little reference to any documentation I was up and running. The Asustor works fine with my external USB3 Seagate 8Tb HDD and my APC ES550G UPS (connected via USB).There are a lot fewer icons than with the Synology NAS so it is much easier to locate the settings you want. I've not installed any additional Asustor apps as I don't need them. Our PCs run the Asustor Backup Plan software and real time backup just works without any fuss. The only downside so far seems to be with accessing the content via NFS. My CoreElec HTPC units sometimes can't connect to the Asustor. The workaround seems to be to log into the NAS and simply turn off the NFS service and turn it back on again.Other than that, very pleased with this unit.

Too much detail?
This is the third purchase of this NAS enclosure. Last year I bought 2, and one of them failed after about 13 months. I could have gone through the hassle of guarantee etc etc, but a second disk had to exist ASAP. I use them for backups of all my data (12TB in all). The web interface for this unit is simply too full of tools which I don't use. Getting the right settings for the useful bits (copying a file.....) is clouded in too many options. BUT - the speed of the interface and the robustness of multiple concurrent copies makes the hassle worthwhile.

Consistent ASUSTOR Quality
SEPT 2023Back in 2016 I was searching for a good NAS and read many reviews. ASUSTOR's NAS products stood out as something special and I purchased a 10 bay NAS. It was a good decision. And I use it as an Archival Storage device. For general storage I've used a 2 TB portable USB connected to my Wi-Fi Router's USB port which works quite well and has not failed in the 3 years its been in service. However, I didn't want to temp the Gods and thought I should set up a RAID 1 NAS with just two hard drives of 10 TB Each giving me 10 TB of backed up storage. Again, I looked at a number of options and felt the ASUSTOR AS1102T was the best choice. I purchased three 10 TB HGST drives (one as a spare) and set up the NAS as a RAID 1. It can also be configured as RAID 0 which would have provided 20 TB total storage, but I wanted the security of NAS 1 which uses the 2nd drive as a mirror for the 1st drive. In RAID 1 mode, the NAS can tolerate a single drive failure where the 2nd drive acts as a backup. So far it's been working as expected. The ADM (ASUSTOR Data Management software) provides outstanding configuration and control of the NAS. ADM is consistent across all the ASUSTOR NAS devices. So if you have one, and get another, there's nothing much more to learn other than configuring your NAS with specific settings if you need to.Installing the two hard drives is very simple: Just pop off the case by removing two screws, insert the two drives and secure them with the provided screws (8), close the case. Then connect the device to a spare Ethernet port on your internal Router or switch, power on the NAS and then from a PC run the ASUSTOR software to configure the NAS to either RAID 0 or RAID 1 depending on how you want to configure the storage. Initializing the device will select an available IP (if you're using DHCP) on your internal network. Once that's done, you'll be able to log into the NAS with ADM. TIP: At this point you should go into your router and assign an available IP as dedicated (most routers allow this) then log into the NAS using ADM and assign the dedicated IP you selected as the IP for the NAS; this is important because if you power down the NAS without assigning a dedicated IP, when it's re-powered on, it will select a different IP which you will not know and so you'll not be able to log into the device using ADM (you would have to look at the connected devices in your router to see what IP was selected and use that IP to log into the NAS/ADM).For a mere approximately $180 (not including the 2 hard drives it requires) to get such a reliable and well designed product is quite a bargain. My only quips with the AS1102T is that the RAM is not upgradable (1 MEG), but so far its very responsive and I don't see any performance issues. If necessary I will come back here and update this review.Otherwise, I highly recommend this NAS if all you need is either a RAID 0 or RAID 1 NAS setup.

Topp!
