So cool with the built in speaker
I have only used this unplugged through its on board speaker. It has a fair amount of drum beats and very usable ones no matter the genre you pick. It has a tempo dial and volume. I got mine on sale or might not have bought it. It's definitely worth the sale price . It's very basic and that is exactly what I was looking for. Just something to jam my guitar along with , it helps me creat riffs . Riffs just flow out of me when I play with a drum machine and that's why I bought it. I've used apps and built in drum machines on my processors but I wanted something simple and portable. It can run on batteries and that's a huge plus . I just use it anywhere in the house and grab a guitar . I use it for practicing covers too but mainly for my own creative purposes. It's a great musical companion.

It would be nice if the manual explained clearly how to use a second pedal to add fills when needed.
SUGGESTION: It would have been nice to have a TEMPO gauge or digital read-out. What I do is (1) select the beat style (8 beat, Dance, Rock, Pop, etc.) (2) select the pattern 1-6 and then (3) find the correct TEMPO by using the DIAL as a CLOCK. I DOCUMENT this on my music or cheat sheets as ROCK/5/then a circle and mark a line as the position on how it looks on a CLOCK. I can set these 3 things very quickly and get the same results every time. I make due when the 3 items don't match a song exactly - but hey even ORIGINAL artists change up their beat! I think for the money it is what I was looking for - something to keep a beat while I play acoustic guitar. Only problem is how to set up two pedals? I use one to start/stop but want to use the other one to add a FILL when needed? The manual was not helpful at all and led me to Patterns and Chains had NO clear instructions on how to use the 2nd pedal. Can any one assist? TECHNICAL SUPPORT is NOT very supportive!!!

Great for beginners to production, with a couple of setbacks
I bought this because I wanted to start collecting hardware to use in music production. It sounds great and the fact that you can pop some batteries in it and take it anywhere is just incredible. The speaker can be really loud, which is also good depending on what you're trying to do (but if you want to record drums directly into a DAW with an AUX cable, make sure to crank the volume on the machine). The amount of drum loops it comes with by default is insane and I'm happy that I have such a huge amount of options when it comes to just how many loops I can use.Unfortunately, as with any product, the Korg KR Mini is not perfect. It only has one set of sounds, and it uses these same sounds for all of the loops, which can be very limiting if you don't have any DAW plugins to change the sound of the drums. There is an option to create your own patterns, which is fantastic and allows for so much more creativity but it's very finnicky in terms of how you'd go about creating these patterns. Thankfully, the manual gives detailed instructions on how to do things such as this and I got the hang of it in no time. The inputs are not quantized, however, so drum recordings can sound very sloppy as a result. The tempo dial, as great as it is, does not have any sort of indication of what BPM your drums are playing at. It doesn't even give a hint of it in the manual, so a lot of guesswork is involved in that regard. All in all, though, I'd highly recommend this for anyone wanted to get into music production. It's great for beginners but not the best thing ever for professional production.

Nice little unit, but not for everybody
Nice compact unit with built in sound. For a musician who needs an inexpensive drum machine for practice purposes, this is a good choice. However, my work requires a better drum sound than this unit is capable of. Also, it lacks definitive tempo settings, and it lacks a pre-programed waltz setting. I am returning it.

Exactly what you’re looking for
If you’re reading this, this is for you. It’s easy to use and at the price I paid the sound quality is perfectly serviceable from the onboard speaker. It’s perfect for practice. The L and R 1/4 outs will likely improve the sound quality, but I haven’t tried them, but I did jam with it for oven an hour on the batteries that were included and they seem to be holding strong. A set should last a while. Of note, the 9V plug is a bit smaller than the standard effects pedal plug, but I prefer the ease and portability batteries so I’ll switch to a rechargeable set after the originals die. It’s guitar case compartment sized and will likely live in my acoustic case. It’s a good companion for an acoustic alone or electric with a low volume amp. Obviously running the signal out of the device would change everything, but I’m not there yet. It’s good enough, actually better than I need.

Great for Practice
I really don’t understand the anger that some folks seem to have about this little guy. I was looking for something more than a metronome but with a built in speaker and battery capable. It’s great in that space, and it is relatively inexpensive. Some folks have complained about a lack of 3/4 timing, which is fair...however user defined rhythms can have a custom number of beats...including 3.The manual is awful and there doesn’t appear to be quantization for user beats, so programming user beats is a challenge.

as advertised
Did not need after all, so I sent it back. But watch out Amazon does not credit card anymore. I thought I was getting a credit so I used that card to buy other stuff. 10 days later there was still no credit and I found out they had issued me a gift card, so to clear that card I bought more stuff from A and still had a balance on my card.

Very basic for rock, pop
I don't ask for much in a rhythm machine but this is a little ridiculous. My biggest complaint is the lack of usable samples. This is very basic and bare bones, which is fine but I cant even seem to find anything but the most basic 4/4 and some unusable time signatures to complement some pretty rudimentary rhythms (a swing feature would be great). The tempo has to be dialed in manually and is not storable as per patch. But I could live with that if it had decent samples. Some may very well like the samples, mostly pop and heavy rock oriented. My music preference is more dynamic in nature so this is barely usable for me. I'll be selling it.

Easy to use!
Bought this for my musician father-in law. He had something else before but it was really complicated to use so he wanted something simple and easy to use but still had lots of rhythms. He’s been like a kid with a new toy since he got it LOL! I would suggest getting the optional foot pedal so when you’ve got a groove going you don’t have to stop playing to change the beat. For the price you can’t beat it. Also has a speaker and a headphone jack so you can make beats wherever you go and save it in the memory till you get back to your guitar. Great buy overall. Very satisfied!

Super bit of kit 👌
I got this item as a backing track for playing bass but it has so many cool features (& I haven't explored them all yet.)Making your own beats & having the pedals as drum roll & filler triggers works so well.I've also started using it for making LO-FI background percussion feels, by hooking up a couple of fx pedals you can really expand on this thing ,I'd definitely recommend if you are thinking about it 😀
