Maroon & White: My Story of Bluefield Beavers Football

Awesome high school football story
I’m sure I’m a little bit biased about this book since I’m a 1981 graduate of Bluefield HS! But just like Donnie I grew up hearing about and siting in the stands cheering on the Beavers long before and after I went to school there. I loved the way the author captured the spirit of a small town and their love for their football team then and now. The pacing was excellent; I read it in about 6 hours. I could not put it down even though I knew how the story ended!! It’s a small town and graduates live all over the country and some even out of the country but we come together for our team and stadium! He mentioned the naming of the Stadium as the best high school stadium in the country. Generations of Beavers from all over the country came together to make that happen!! Just another example of the indomitable spirit of a little but mighty southern Appalachian high school! Great book highly recommend!

Great story of hard and consistent work, disappointments, and dreams coming true!
This “not really a football fan” really did enjoy Maroon & White: My Story of Bluefield Beavers Football. I learned a great deal about the Bluefield High School Beavers.Donnie Jackson gives us an interesting player’s point of view as he unravels the history of the Beavers and gives us a unique peek into his life and dreams.I highly recommend this memoir to everyone!

Awesome review of Bluefield High School football program.
Having grown up in Bluefield as Donnie did, I followed Bluefield Beaver football with a passion. My father had me in tow for all home games and many away games including state championships. The only time he sat on the opposing team's side of the field was when my son was playing for Graham High School.Donnie's revisit of his career as a Bluefield Beaver evoked many memories for me. Our town and it's heart is excellently portrayed in his book.

Maroon & White equals excellence!
This book is an absolute page turner. It is an excellent story about the Bluefield Beavers first state championship under the legendary head coach John Chmara! Donnie Jackson is Beaver legend & his memoir is a must read for Beaver football fans or high school football fans in general!! As we say in Bluefield - “Beaver Pride” forever! I’d rate more than 5 stars but Amazon won’t let me!

A good read for anyone
I'm so proud of two of our two successful Bluefield 'Beavers'! Don Jackson the Author and his Editor and co-author, Harriet E. Michael. Don was the capitavating high school football player and Harriet was co captain of the cheerleaders while the story was unfolding for them in high school. As a former Bluefield Beaver High School Football player the story brought back a lot of good memories of my time at Beaver. Don's story is well written and deserves the attention it is getting!

Relax with an inspiring story from a simpler time
An engaging and fun read! A tribute to the joys of high school football, small town camaraderie, and hard work and dedication. I felt transported back to a simpler and more innocent time, and I found myself rooting for Donnie and the Bluefield Beavers. I know little about football strategy, but the author paints an easy-to-follow picture of life on and off the field.

Awesome book
Highly recommend this book to any one who loves football. Written by a player, Donald "Donnie" Jackson who shared his story and the success of a small town football program. Bluefield, West Virginia coach, John Chamara, was tough but taught the players skills that would last them a life time.
