Would I Lie to You?

An absolutely gripping tale of money, yummy mummys and racism
I absolutely loved this book - I couldn't put it down. The opening was brilliant, compelling and drew me in straight away. The author did a masterly job of keeping us feeling sympathetic towards the main character the whole time, even while she piled deceit upon deceit. She throws a light on money - the cause of so much discord in relationships and casual racism. I would love to see this book made into a TV series. ..it kept me guessing right to the end...Can't wait to read her next book

Couldn't stop reading
It's not often I peep inside a book and cannot stop reading so have to buy it there and then! Normally, I take a while to decide which book to read next, but this had me hooked from the first words of Chapter One: "The last thing you need to hear when you're waiting to get Botox..." Now I've never had botox or even wanted it, but this book lead me into a world where everyone pretends to be someone else, a world of money beyond my wildest dreams. But it's a cautionary tale of 'keeping up with the Joneses' and the black places this can lead you. Although I have never experienced the kind of world Faiza and Tom inhabit, I have experienced the kind of love they share, a love that seems so solid nothing can shake it. Or can it? Can spending the Emergency Fund and then trying to cover your tracks ever be forgiven? As Faiza gets deeper and deeper into her web of lies and deceit it all seems hopeless. Every silver-lined cloud turns to dust as her lies propel her further and further on her downward spiral to destruction. Who are her true friends? The ones she's been trying to be like, to fit in with, for twenty years. Racism and sexual harassment are not shied away from in this wonderfully written, heartfelt book that kept me reading and reading, long after I should have put my light out. Although I was completely drawn into Faiza's life I didn't see the end coming, the twist that brought tears to my eyes. A brilliant book, filled with characters that will stay with me.

Warm, witty and a wonderful distraction
Loved, loved, loved this book. When Faiza's husband loses his job, he wants access to their stashed away savings but there's only one problem, she's spent it trying to keep up with all the yummy mummies. I can't tell you what happens next because that'll spoil it, but I picked up this book on a day when I was definitely feeling a bit sorry for myself, and it was just the right thing to read. Absorbing, engaging, well-written and I was rooting for Faiza right from the start. Thoroughly recommend.

I just couldn't feel sympathy for the main character
The premise for this was interesting and I was looking forward to reading it. But nothing in the book made sense. The choices the main character had made were terrible and I just couldn't get over her stupidity. I understand how people can get in debt easily but this just didn't ring true especially since she was meant to be a high flying career woman in another life. Posh mum does it tough was a hard pill to swallow and I just couldn't feel sympathy for her.

Clever, funny, gripping
Was totally hooked on this funny and very real tale of trying to keep up with yummy mummies in Wimbledon from the get go. As Faiza twists and turns through the drama of the fact she has spent all the family savings when her husband loses his job, she gets trapped by her lies, trying to keep the terrible truth from her husband and close friends. We are with her every step of the way, in this taut and fast moving family drama. I loved this book, highly recommend it as a light hearted but well written read.
