Q: Does the clothing have a glue smell from the rhinestones? Also, does it need to be prewashd before wearing?

Yes it has an awe full smell. The buttons have so much glue that when I tried to unbutton, it tore the fabric. I wanted it for the hospital pics for my newborn. Honestly it's not worth it. I am home with my newborn so didn't get a chance to return it. The company has to do a better job with the buttons. The fabric is soft and it's cute. It will definitely need to be washed before wearing.

Q: Can I it fit a newborn?

I don't know, I bought this for my nephew and he has not been born yet. But this will definitely fit a newborn baby. Beautiful set.
