Volkanix Aqua 'Coarse ' Grade 8-32mm Lava Rock 1kg (1.75 Litre) Aquarium Aquascaping Filter Media

Used this product as recommended - washed and boiled - and used (both grades) for a hidden, maintenance free filter in a Riparium - I have not used any other type of filter medium (eg - filter wool etc) with this product, and after a few weeks the water clarity is beautiful and all water parameters are stable - no changes in hardness or particulates.As I had some excess I have also used it to grow Peace Lillies and trying some spider plants in just water - I think the red looks really great and a nice contrast to the usual black lava rock or clay pellets - and so far, the plants are loving it! I would recommend the larger size rock for this as it gives better room for the plant roots.Make sure you wear strong gloves when washing the product - it can be very rough on the hands - which is good as there is a huge surface area for beneficial bacteria in the aquarium!If I ever get organised and tidy up - photo's to follow! :)
