Not sure if I was supposed to BUT I did handwash mine a few times and then let air dry with no issues afterwards for doing so. Just don't use really hot water as it might damage the elastic.

I open wore mine in the shower. It will remain wet for a while which if not careful can lead to skin irritation but otherwise i had no negative issues doing so.
