Better quality? IMO-Yes
As the owner of a pair of UV-5R radios for w few years I wanted to upgrade to a weather resistant radio. Did lots of searching and comparing via the reviews here on Amazon and finally settled on the UV-9R Plus. The build quality just feels better than the 5R but it operates almost identically to the 5R so the user learning curve is minimal. I’ve not really tested the range but will soon in the hills for deer season. Programming was easy with a separately sold cable using CHIRP. My only real complaint is all the many accessories I have for the 5R are not compatible with the 9R Plus. Not even the antennas (for the most part) I have a few whips that the base was too big to fit into the antenna base aperture.I had to cut the base down to fit. It did force me to buy the stubby antennas, which I really do like.

Only 5W. But good radio for the price.
This radio is definately worth the price, but dont belive the 8W CLAIMS. THIS RADIO OUTPUS JUST UNDER 5W .Its a nice, water resistant tough little radio at a "throw away" price. Great for out door events or back of the truck. But it will not output 8W ever!

IT WORKS PERFECTLY AT 8W
this is my 15th walkie talkie that is baofeng. it definitely works better with my existing 15 walkies and with the wattage meter. this company definitely sells the good one.

Works great for a couple months
The battery life indicator on the radio is either shows completely charged or completely dead. After a couple months the batteries quit staying up as long. Have contacted seller and they just want to send me a replacement battery. Do not buy these as a falsely advertised stand. By time will be 18 to 24 hours. Not used for the first month or two then hit drastically diminishes after that I can provide the conversation with the company. They keep telling me to process a replacement. However, they didn't answer me till after the return period had ran out and they tell me to go ahead and process a replacement but but you can't

CANNOT BE PROGRAMED in Windows 11!!
the programming cable for these UV9R radios is NOT supported in windows 11 save yourself the headache and pass on buying it until ABREE can provide a Windows 11 driver otherwise its nothing but a paper weight...UPDATE; still no windows 11 Driver, I used a friends windows 10 computer to program, and then put each (I bought 3) on my Surecom SWR/power meter and discovered that each antanae had a different SWR (verified by my VNA analyzer) and the HIGH output for each was 4.02 watts another was 6.72 watts and one is putting out 9.63 watts!! the quality of these radios varies wildly! for rubber ducky SWR I got 1.45 then 1.86 and one thats 2.73 the telescoping antanaes are all 19.99 SWR if not extended when extended they vary from 1.56 up to 3.72..........

Not an 8w radio! only transmitting 5w returning for inaccurate description.
Only transmitting 5w! Definitely not an 8w radio. I returned the unit to seller for inaccurate website description.
