Why hasn't Lusk built a monument to Dell Burke or the Yellow Hotel?
So interesting and a great read. It makes me wonder why Lusk hasn't yet built a monument to this lady. She did so much for Lusk during her time, much more than Mother Featherlegs who at least has a headstone out in the middle of nowhere. Dell seemed to have given Lusk, Wyoming a good tale to tell. I went there recently and was sad to see that her bordello has been destroyed. Dell is mentioned also in Bonner Brothers which is also about Lusk, but in 1946. Bonner Brothers: Lusk, Wyoming, Summer of 1946

Great Research but Boring
I'm sorry to say that I didn't finish this book. The author did an excellent job at researching Dell Burke and i'm sure spent many years of her life in this process but I read about halfway through the book and then stopped because it was boring me. I feel the author could have made the more book interesting and lively instead of inventing conversations that just confused the reader. Its a shame because the subject is so interesting but the story was flat.

Who would have known?
What an insightful book not only into a strong resourceful woman, but the rich history of Wyoming. A great read.

Dell Burke: Frontier Moneymaker
Dell Burke was always a moneymaker, in a time and place where that was an almost impossible thing for a woman. If she had been a man, she would have wound up running Wall Street -- and Wall Street would have been the better for it.The book is rich with details and anecdotes and still conveys the image of Dell Burke as a woman who kept herself to herself as much as practical. She remained -- well, in a sense -- impenetrable, and she probably did it as a business policy, as much as by personal preference.A thoroughly enjoyable book that gives you food for thought (if thinking is your thing), with pictures of the time.
