It’s horrible in smell and taste is not what I expected.

I buy this brand of Shrimp Paste at my local Asian Grocery Store. Bought my 2nd Jar today. I didn’t even know it had the bean oil in it, until I double checked my product in my cabinet.1) WHAT I LIKE:• I like the Flavor and that a little can go along way, and a lot isn’t over powering. It will punch You in the mouth, but it won’t punch You in the gut. Meaning it gets stronger, but isn’t over powering.•I like that the oil in the paste helps to spread the flavor out easily, so it combines with when added to a dish. That’s basically it’s purpose, so Good Job!•I like that the Shrimp Paste adds a bit of flavor to a dish, but that it isn’t “fishy” or even very “Shrimpy”. It doesn’t last/stay around long enough for it to get bad in my pantry.•I like the 7oz size, it’s a good size (and comparable to other similar shrimp paste products), and just enough that You don’t run out immediately. I could always use more!2) WHAT I DON’T LIKE:•I don’t like that when adding this to a dish it can cause the dish to turn somewhat ‘orange’ in color (make it look like it has chili oil in it)•I don’t like that while it adds flavor to a dish, sometimes I feel like I have to get a little heavy handed with quantity in order to get to the punch of flavor I’m looking to achieve•I can’t complain about the size as it is a standard size jar when compared to other shrimp paste products, but I do wish there were bigger/larger product sizes available so I wouldn’t have to buy so many jars or so often. It is easy to use in so many different dishes or just cook some and mix with rice and enjoy!•According to label it needs to be refrigerated and used with 7 days after opening…*coughs* I didn’t know that and kept it in my cabinet (cool+dark) where it stayed and got used often for about a month, Whoops!Q:Would I Buy Again?A:Absolutely! I Love this stuff! It’s so versitle, it’s not really salty like a lot of shrimp pastes, adds flavor easily without overpowering.Give it a Try! I give it a 6 out of 10
