Excellent brief history of the Roman world
As you can expect from OUP, this is history at its best, taking in the full sweep of Roman history, from the early stages of Roman civilization to the fall of the Western empire and rise of the Eastern one. The chapters cover in different sections both the major political and military developments of Roman history, as well as social, religious and legal issues, etc. All in a relatively short text for a book that covers over a 1000 year period. The text contains figures, maps, plates, tables, glossary and recommended reading lists which are very instructive. Highly recommended as an introduction or borad survery of Roman history!

A great survey of Roman History
If you are looking for a simple, yet still thorough, overview of Roman history and culture, this book is perfect. It hits the key points but doesn't over-complicate them. A great survey book.

Very helpful book for my college class
I used this book for my Roman Civilizations class. I didn't read the whole book, but what I did read was very well-explained and helpful for the content of the course.

Interesting
Actually a decently well written history book that makes me want to read it. It's not at all dry like I would expect out of a school text book.

A good introductory history
Pictures when appropriate (yes, in color), not too many pop-out boxes with irrelevant information like other textbooks, follows the history chronologically more or less and is very clear in terms of content. I used this book to supplement the textbook I used for my Roman history class and this book has made understanding the history a lot clearer. It doesn't go too in-depth, unfortunately for those who are looking for more depth (it is called a brief history after all). But it covered the history well enough and was a good refresher to read before an exam.
