Works great (with a slight fix)
I love Rocky Mount stuff. I have three of their bike trays mounted to a Yakima roof rack. The trays are solidly built and hold my bikes extremely well. Recently, I bought a gravel bike with a 12mm through axle. I put in the 12mm adapter, tightened down the two set screws, and mounted on the bike tray. So far, so good. About 15 miles down the road, I heard some banging around coming from the roof. I pulled over and discovered that the 12mm adapter insert loosened and was sliding back and forth about 1/16" - 1/8th of an inch. The bike wasn't in any danger of coming off but why the slop? I had the hex key with me so tightened down the set screws once more. Again, the 12mm adapter started its side to side movement again. When I got home, I took out the set screws and slid out the adapter. I centered the adapter back inside of the main unit and center punched two holes on the ridge of the aluminum adapter. Then, carefully, I used a drill press and drilled two approximately 1/8 diameter holes about 1/8' deep. I went to a hardware store and bought two very strong stainless steel set screws slightly longer than the original soft aluminum ones. Now, when I tighten down the set screws, they enter into the small recesses I drilled and the sliding problem no longer exists. The stainless screws also enable you to torque down more for more holding power. It was a 10 minute fix that cost about $1.50. If Rocky Mounts would pre-drill these holes in the three adapters they supply, they would have the very best through axle adapter on the market- one that would rate 10 stars!

failed in two ways
First, this little guy flops forward and backward. I clamped it into a RockyMounts Jetline bike carrier and it was fully impossible to ever tighten the clamp enough to hold this firmly in place with a bike attached to it.Second, the little aluminum sleeve that the axle goes through is only held in place by the tiniest of little tabs, and that broke on the first time I used it, which means even when the axle skewer is fully clamped, the sleeve that it's clamped into slides back and forth from left to right. So it flops forward and backward, and slides left to right. Does not hold a bike firmly in place at all.

Look no further than this adapter.
This comes with 3 different tubes you slide in and out for different fork thru axles - covering most slacker MTB, cross country, and road bikes. If you go cheaper on the price, the adapters can fail and bend, making your bike wobble as you turn the car. If you go more expensive (thule/yakima) you pay more $$$ for no added benefits (in fact you lose the compatibility as most adapters work with only one type of thru axle). Look no further than this great thru axle adapter for roof mounted bikes.

The design is poor, it needs to be engineered with a couple ...
The silver thru axle adapter does not hold in place due to the retaining screws not holding it properly. It comes loose when driving for more than a couple of hours and only stays in place due to the bike forks preventing it from slipping out. The design is poor, it needs to be engineered with a couple of pre-drilled holes to allow the retaining screws to hold it firmly in place. Really disappointed given the high price.

Works as advertised
Like the title says, it works as advertised. I’m not cheap but it is expensive for what it is. I can’t be too made at Rocky Mounts since thru axle design (while having notable upsides) is the equivalent of Apple’s switch to the Lightning plug design. That aside, the adaptor is far cheaper than all new racks!!

Poor quality
Inner tube wobbled after 3 uses. Loctite held it in place for a month but ultimately replaced with the DriveShaft by RockyMounts. Also made contact with bike fork denting both StreetRod and fork.

Set Screws
I read a review about there being a problem with the set screws - I also had it. Within my street, the screws came loose, allowing my bike and the 12x100mm adapter to slide back and forth. For $60, I imagine having working set screws. I bought some Red Loctite, applied, set and screwed. No worries now!

Great concept.. but flawed?
Great concept but there's moving parts that made me cautious when using this. The tightening but would come lose. You have to constantly keep checking that it's not lose. Maybe a flaw? I didn't trust it with my 3k$ bikes..... otherwise great quality materials.
